The school where I teach has a high mobility rate along with a high free and reduced priced lunch percentage. For the most part, the students I serve come from poverty. They don't have the money to buy school supplies because they are simply trying to figure out where the money for groceries will be coming from. I also serve students from our local homeless shelter. Due to the high mobility I have a large range of learners and levels. HOWEVER, My students enjoy coming to school for the safe and predictable nature of our building. We create a classroom atmosphere based on mutual respect, ownership, responsibility and citizenship.
