    Funded Apr 9, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting our colors, copies, and centers project. This cardstock will be so helpful when it comes to making sturdy and reusable materials for use year after year. Thank you again and we look forward to sharing the full success of the project with you soon.”

  • Building Math Success Through Building Organization

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you so much for your support and generosity to our youngest learners. These materials have helped us to get our math games and activities organized and easily accessible. From the teacher stand point, I have been able to organize each week's activities into the envelopes which makes it easy to pull out all the week's activities at the start of the week. From the student's stand point, they have fun, hands on activities for each of their centers and well as for small group instruction.

The bowls, help to provide each of the students with the necessary materials they need for each of the activities they are participating in. The bowls are durable so even when they get knocked over they don't break. It also makes for an easy clean up when students know exactly where to put their materials and they are then ready to go for the next day or student.

Thank you again for your support and generosity. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village.”

    With gratitude,

  • Colors, Copies, and Centers

    Funded Feb 2, 2025

Thank you so much for your support and generosity of our youngest learners. We have been able to create so many great math and literacy activities to put into centers that color coordinate with the center. With the help of these resources and being able to put activities into centers, we have begun to see growth in our students letter recognition and number recognition like we have not seen in previous years.

We are able to keep a rotation of literacy and math activities moving through the centers that keeps students engaged in learning activities during free choice time. Being able to color coordinate the materials to the center's color has helped with knowing which center materials belong in as well has well as help students recall the activity they want to work on because they know the color of the activity. Having the opportunity to laminate the materials has also made them durable for continued use, not just this year but for years to come as well.

Thank you again for your support and generosity to our students. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village.”

  • Essentials for Learning to Write and Recognize Letters

    Funded Jan 21, 2025

Thank you so much for your generosity and supporting our learning to write project. Students have been using the pencils daily to write their name in their sign-in books as well as for writing in centers. The shortness and shape of the pencils have allowed for students to use proper hand placement while holding the pencil which in turn helps them with properly forming their letters.

We have been able to use the Velcro and magnets to great, hands-on, and interactive games and activities throughout the centers. We recently created a number sorting game for the manipulatives center where students sort windows by number and put them on the corresponding house. We have also been able to create file folder games to support students where they are with their math and literacy skills.

Thank you again for your support and generosity of our classroom. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village.”

  • Germs, Germs, Go Away

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity and support of our healthy classroom project. Thanks to your support, we were able to keep the transmission of illnesses in our class down over the course of the cold and flu season. In January, we only had 8 days of absences due to illness; February we only had 5 days of absences due to illness; and March we only had 2 days of absences due to illness. In 16 years of teaching, I have never seen such high attendance rates over the winter months. This is no doubt because of the supplies you helped to provide for our students. We were able to regularly clean and disinfect centers, toys, nap mats, and any other surface or material that was regularly used by students to help cut down on the transmission of germs.

With all of the extra days students spent in school during January-March, they began to soar academically. Students increased their letter recognition by 92%, letter-sound connection by 53%, and number recognition by 81%. With these huge gains from our students over the winter months, all of our students surpassed their PK3 goals of knowing 13 letters, 5 sounds, and numbers 0-5, with many of them achieving the PK4 goals for students.

Thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to the learning of our youngest students. The growth our students made over the winter months would not have happened had they gotten sick and missed school. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village and helping to keep them healthy and in school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Bridging School and Home with Books

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting our bridging school and home with books project. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide all of our students with letter and number books for their home libraries to support their learning at home. Before sending the books home with students, we read them during class and interacted with them during centers so they would know how the lift tabs would work. Not only have students been enjoying the books at home, they have regularly been using them during center time to identify letters and numbers that we have been working on.

We have also been able to provide students with two of their favorite books from our units of studies, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Watching students interact with books and seeing the joy on their face is priceless. Thanks to these books, students are showing reading behaviors like orienting the book correctly, using language from the book to retell the story, identifying parts of the book and tracking from left to right.

Thank you again so much for your support and generosity. We would not have been able to provide these books to our students without your support. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village.”

  • DJ, Spin That Track

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting our music project. We have been having so much fun with the new CD player, singing and dancing around. Part of our daily routine is to play a cleanup song when it's time to transition to our next activity. The Bluetooth capability has allowed for me to hit the cleanup song wherever I am in the room, regardless of what I am doing. Students hear the track and instantly start to clean up. Once we are done cleaning up, we are able to use our kids in motion to do our freeze dance song where we work on our letter and number recognition.

The best part of the new CD player is that we are able to play our relaxing naptime music during rest time. The music is so helpful to drowned out the other noises around the room and allow students to relax and rest after their long day.

Thank you again for your generosity and supporting our classroom. We would not have been able to provide this CD player to our students without you. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village.”

  • Building Stamina with Sand

    Funded Oct 28, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting our kinetic sand project. The students have loved having the sand table open. With the density of the kinetic sand, our students have had an opportunity to strengthen their hand muscles which in turn will help them with their fine motor and writing development. They love the using the little trucks to move the sand and crush the molds they build.

When we first opened the sand table, students were speechless at what they saw and then asked "Do we get to play with that?" And play they have. They created their own math game in the sand of hiding a specific number of rocks and having the other student find them and count them.

Thank you again for your generosity to our classroom. We would not be able to provide these materials to our students without your support. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village.”

  • Rewarding Positive Behavior

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your support of our classroom and our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports project. The students have loved the treasure chest and getting to pick out a prize when they have earned 30 points. Students have been working so hard academically to stay on task and follow directions so they can earn ClassDojo points and take a trip to the treasure chest.

For many of our students, listening and participating comes naturally and earn their points to visit the treasure chest almost every week. For our students who have a little bit harder of a time, they have been able to pick out their prize and have it above their cubby as a reminder of what they are working towards. For these students, having something tangible in front of them to work towards has been a huge motivator for them.

Thank you again for your support and generosity to our classroom and project. We always say "It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X." Thank you for being part of our village. We could not do it without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

My students attend a Title I school in DC and are some of the most amazing children you will ever meet. They go through things on a daily basis that I couldn't imagine going through, yet come to school with a smile on their face and ready to learn because they know if they come to school they have someone they can count on. They know that I'm going to be there every day for them even if no one at home is their for them. My students learn just as much from me as I do from them every year.
