Funded Feb 21, 2013Digital microscopes have enabled my students to visualize microorganisms and cellular structures. During the first week the microscopes were in our classroom, students brought in seawater and found zooplankton. One seventh grader took an amazing digital photograph of a copepod. Additionally, we have been able to view samples of pond water containing algae with cell walls and nuclei clearly visible.
Students said that the digital microscopes made our classroom feel like a real science lab. We appointed a "Class Biologist" who would gather digital images and email them to me. I shared those images on the blog and that further primed my students for scientific discovery.
The microscope station was a major hit at our yearly Exhibition. Seventh graders showed younger students and parents how to prepare their own slides and focus the microscope. Some visitors to our class were able to record digital video of swimming microorganisms within minutes of first using the microscope.
Thank you for your donation to the Innovations Academy 7th Grade Science classroom! I have many ideas for the upcoming year and look forward to sharing the microscopic world with a new group of students.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Davis
