Our school has an amazingly diverse population of students whose families come from all over the world. They are excited to visit the library during morning Books & Bytes, regular class times, and monthly family library nights to select amazing books to help them grow as readers and members of our community. What is missing? Great up to date books that meet their needs as readers. Our district recently under went a shift in our bilingual framework from a late exit model to an early exit model. This has left our school library with a deficit of high interest-lower level English language books. My students are playing catch up to meet the state requirements. They want to read engaging series and graphic novels with text they can be successful with. Currently our most popular titles are on active waiting lists with over 5 students in line for a book.
