"I need help!" "How do you spell, "Hippopotamus?" "Miss, what do I do next? Help!" Can you hear their frustration? A simple task that others may breeze through will often stump my students the most. In our class of eager boys and girls, these are the comments I hear daily. Most of my students have grown up a stone's throw away from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Waimanalo Beach. Once you look past the beauty of the scenery, you will notice the sounds of students learning in our nearby elementary school. My special education class provides services to a range of 8-10 students with an assortment of disabilities and challenges. My school is located in a predominantly rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island ancestry. This is a school that needs your help.
