My student are a blend of typically developing and special needs preschoolers from a high poverty area. Many of them are delayed developmentally and need extra support to learn and grow. Many of our families don't have the toys and learning materials in their homes that foster the development of children. Our community suffered a huge disaster on May 22 with the EF tornado that ripped through the heart of Joplin. Play is also therapy for children and our children need opportunity to play, to construct, to pretend, to socialize, in order to process some of the things that have happened, not to mention just to grow as children and learners.
