My students are a fun and lively bunch located on the south side of Chicago. My student population is 98% African American and 78% low income. I teach an IB math class, and Advanced Algebra classes with many students who have the dream and ambition to attend college post high school graduation. This fills my heart with joy as I hope to give them all a chance to succeed in their future.
I am trying to set high expectations for these students with a rigorous curriculum despite the fact that they are in a low-income neighborhood. All students can achieve entrance into a good college and receive good grades in high school, no matter what their economic status is or the funds their school can provide.
