Funded Aug 9, 2019Thank you so much for allowing me to attend the Teach Your Heart Out conference event this past October. I was able to mix and mingle with so many like-minded teachers, learn about new and unfamiliar resources, and experience new ways of creating high levels of engagement, reinventing new uses for old classroom materials, and utilizing technology to improve the learning experiences for my students.
My biggest take away from this conference was about how fun learning can still be even after teaching the same material for several years over and over again. I've found ways to integrate our vocabulary into songs, to mix old learning with new topics, and to encourage fun and collaboration with each new lesson. This conference reminded me of the importance of allowing my students to take over the learning, rather than me preaching my 'sage wisdom' to them day after day.
The thing that I learned and has directly impacted my teaching the most was the importance of music and the use of Nearpod technology to enhance my teaching. I've been able to start each class with a morning song that my students love and look forward to every day. We've begun using songs in our everyday transitions and attention getters. Nearpod has been a fantastic addition to our weekly lessons. While it takes a little time to create the activity, the output is well worth the input.
I would not have had the courage to implement so many new ideas in such a short amount of time without the skills and keynotes I was exposed to at the conference. Your donations made all of this possible. My students and I thank you from the bottoms of our hearts.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Farias
