My students live in a high poverty area and many receive free and reduced lunch. My class is 10th grade English. In Arkansas, students are tested at the 11th grade level so it is so important to put them on the right track now. My 150 students are all boys. This list of books is comprised of many sports and male centric novels. Studies have shown boys struggle in English more than girls for a myriad of reasons. In my English class, my boys will learn to connect stories to their own lives, express their emotions and confidently state their opinions.
