I Can Read, Write, and Speak in Spanish!
Funded Aug 11, 2011With great pleasure, I am writing this thank you letter on behalf of the 450 students this project will have an impact on this year. When we think about what we had when we went to school, we were fortunate enough to be provided with the resources we needed to be successful in our classes. Unfortunately, this was not the case for these students, and with your help, we were able to provide these basic resources for the students to be successful in Spanish class.
With these materials, students have been able to be successful in any assignment they are given in Spanish class. The younger students in K-2 have used the notebooks as picture journals, where the older students in grades 3-6, have been able to use them as writing journals. Every day at the end of class, they are given a prompt that they must answer. The prompt is either written in Spanish, or for them to explain what they did in their lesson for the day. The folders have been able to keep all the students organized, particularly the older students who need to take home their notes to complete any homework or studying they may have for the night.
When I explained to my students that my family and friends donated their own money to provide these basic resources for them, they were speechless for the first time, but their faces said it all. I had several students tell their classmates while handing out the notebooks that they had to take care of them, and treasure them because people were so kind to provide them with the notebooks. I also had a few students come up to me personally to tell me that they wished they could thank all of you in person for what you have done for them.
As you can see, this project and your donations have made a huge impact on the students in my Spanish classes. I want to end this thank you letter on this note. At our school, we stress the idea of going to college on day one of Kindergarten. One of my 1st graders came up to me and said, in her exact words, "Can you thank your family and friends for giving their own money to buy us notebooks and folders? I don't even know them, and they are helping me get one step closer to college!"
Again, thank you for the impact you have made on my students. I also cannot express the amount of appreciation I have for all of you for doing this.”
With gratitude,
Ms. McCusker
