Special Needs Materials for Reading, Math, and Science
Funded Feb 7, 2025Thank you for your support. I really have the most wonderful students. Many of them are with me from Kindergarten through 5th grade. They will be so excited to learn using these new materials. I absolutely know the butterfly nets will be their favorite. I wish you could be a fly on wall when we open the boxes.”

Spinning Disc for Autism Self-Regulation
Funded Nov 4, 2024Thank you so very much for donating to my Donor's Choose project so my students could have the Dizzy Disc Spinner in our motor lab. They were so excited when the box arrived. They cheered when they saw the spinner.
Many of our students use spinning and twirling for stimming and self-regulation. The Dizzy Disc allows them to spin as fast or slow as they wish. I'll never understand how they do it without getting dizzy. We also use the spinning disc as reinforcement. A student can choose to "work for spinning".
Your donation is greatly appreciated.”

Life Cycles for Life Skills/Autism
Funded Jul 31, 2022Thank you so very much for providing my students with books about the life cycle of a ladybug as well as the life cycle models.
We are currently scheduled to complete our life cycles unit in the spring '23. At that time, I will send the vouchers off to get both the painted lady butterfly and the ladybug larvae. My students enjoy learning about life cycles in such a hands on way.
When this unit is complete, I plan on uploading more photos for you to enjoy. Thank you again for bringing science to life for my students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron and 3 other donors.Special Needs Vocabulary and Language Building Tools
Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you for all the fantastic language activities and vocabulary games. My students are low to non-verbal with very limited speech and language. The position word game let's them demonstrate their understanding of position words like: in, out, on, under, beside, etc.; by placing the objects where indicated on the card.
The doll house furniture has been instrumental in helping students identify common household objects, furniture and rooms. Students enjoy the activity so much because they feel like they are playing and not working.
They also really enjoy the object lotto game. They are fascinated with the little objects.”

Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you for helping my students start the school year with the supplies they needed. Each student received a pencil box with new crayons, glue, markers, pencils, watercolors and scissors. They were so excited when the shipping boxes arrived. Each time a new order arrived, I was asked if it was from Santa Claus.
Each day my students complete work at independent work stations. Many times these activities require them to have their pencil boxes. It is such a great skill to know what you need when you are working. Developing this kind of independence will surely help my students in the future.”

Funded Nov 20, 2021Thank you for allowing me to give my students a spruced a sensory area and calming area. Self-regulation is a vital part of their education and they need tools to learn how to self calm.
Using the Zones of Regulation, I teach my students the importance of recognizing emotions and feelings in themselves and others as well as the effects. I spent much of the first semester teaching them how to request the area and how to use it. There are visual instructions within each area to keep students aware of the expectations.
Students that develop self-regulation skills will tend to have better educational outcomes. This is especially true for autistic children.
I appreciate that you see the importance in this investment.”

Basic Classroom Supplies for Special Needs
Funded Aug 26, 2021The fall semester flew by! My students and I remained healthy and happy into the new year. The glue, markers, paint, tape and pens kept everyone supplied and ready to learn.
The dry erase markers are used by students during calendar time. They follow the calendar routine by marking their answers on their calendar mats. They stay active and engaged. FYI - magic erasers are great for erasing marker off on laminated surfaces.
The paint colors are beautiful. We are excited to use them for our spring mural. I'll be sure to post a photo when it is complete.
The glue, crayons, and stickers are everyday essentials. I've included several photos of student work.
Thank you again for donating to my students.”

Children's Books & Accessories for Special Needs
Funded Feb 23, 2021Thank you for purchasing the storytelling kits for our books. The books are part of a program designed by a speech-language pathologist to provide picture supported activities and AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) supports. Activities include multi-sensory opportunities to explore concepts, ideas, and themes found within children's literature.
The storytelling kits add another hands-on element to literature instructions. I am able to make the world of children's literature accessible to all my students, regardless of their disability. I hope you look at the photos and see just how cute and colorful they are.”

This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Drive-In and 2 other donors.Special Needs Listening and Love
Funded Jan 18, 2021Thank you for providing my students with headphones and supplies for our Valentine's Day Party. The headphones have helped to reduce the noise in the classroom. Each student has either a computer or iPad. They are given daily assignments that are picture and voice output support. Without the headphones, it gets quite loud. The students enjoy using the headphones.
The Valentine's Day party materials were a HUGE success. The students received stamps, stickers, tattoos, heart-shaped glasses and candy. We had such a fun afternoon. Who would have thought that we would be hit with a major freeze shutting down the city in the following days.
This year has definitely been different. I'm so grateful to have ALL my students in face-to-face instruction. Thank you for being a part of their success.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lloyd-Carney
