Pre-K Essentials for Fine Motor and Literacy!
Funded Apr 20, 2022Thank you for your generous donation of fine motor materials for my classroom. The students are really enjoying working with all of these materials. It has been so fun to witness their excitement to use tools such as scissors and glue sticks, twisty pencils and crayons. Several children literally shivered with excitement to try scissors! It is such a joy to hear a young child say, "Look, I'm doing it!", with pride in their accomplishment! Your donation makes such a big impact on the lives and education of the young learners in my classroom! With these tools you are building their fine motor muscles and control which is the precursor to their writing development. You are truly a hero for education! We so greatly appreciate what you have provided!”

Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you so much for your donation for new headphones for my students! I love them and my students love them! These new headphones have made such a big impact in my classroom. The students are able to use them easily and comfortably! They are well padded and adjust to fit young children. The volume control keeps their ears protected. Everyone is able to hear the programs while working on the iPads without disrupting the rest of the classroom. The students have done a beautiful job managing the use of the headphones. They love being "big kids" and showing how responsible they can be when setting up and cleaning up with their school tools. Thank you so much for being such a positive force in education and supporting the needs of our students!”

Funded Apr 19, 2022Thank you so much for your donations for the Scholastic Reader Subscription! My students love the readers and are always excited to read an new one! The magazines are very engaging for young children. They love the brightly colored photographs on each page! They love the activities they complete on the back page with Clifford the Dog! The content in the magazines is relevant, age appropriate and helps my students learn new factual information in a fun way. They are learning so many concepts about print such as how to turn pages, how to tract print from left to right and top to bottom. how to identify words and letters in words. When we are finished using them in the classroom, they get to take these magazines home and share them with their families! This helps to provide reading materials for many students that may not have access to books or other print materials at home. You have made such a huge impact on my students with your generosity! Thank you again for your support!”

Funded Apr 26, 2022Thank you so much for your donation! You have provided many much needed supplies to help me run my classroom in an efficient and healthy way! It doesn't take long for young children to share germs and illness in a classroom setting. The Lysol wipes are being put to good use cleaning tables and toys! The tissues boxes are all about the room so that they have easy access to help themselves when in need. The soap and especially the little dispensers have been wonderful to have at the sink. My students are able to reach the soap easily now! Being able to complete self-care tasks independently is a big accomplishment for a preschooler! I keep a package of baby wipes in our lunchroom basket. We are eating lunch in the cafeteria with the "big school kids" so it has been great to be able to pass out a baby wipe to each student to clean themselves up! Your donation has had a huge impact on the students in my classroom. I am so grateful for your generosity!”

Funded Nov 30, 2021Thank you so much for the new sleeping cots! They are wonderful to use each day! My students were very surprised and excited the first time they saw the cots on the floor at nap time! At first they were too excited to sleep as they discovered that these cots are a little bouncy! Soon though, they settled in warm and cozy and drifted off into a restful sleep. My teaching assistant and I love them too as they are easy to clean and keep stored in the classroom. Your generosity in providing these sleeping cots has made a big impact in our classroom! You have enabled us to provide a healthy and comfortable way for our students to get the rest they need. They wake up energetic and happy; ready to continue their busy day! We look forward to using these cots with many students for years to come!”

Funded Dec 1, 2020Thank you so much for the subscription to Seesaw! This program has and continues to have a big impact on my virtual academy student's ability to practice skills and to "show what they know". Access to the Seesaw app on their IPads has allowed my class to engage in a wide variety of activities in a broad range of subject areas. The activity pages have bright colors and charming pictures which has made the work fun and attractive to young learners. Some of the lessons they have worked on include domino addition, segmenting sounds in cvc words, word family work and writing response pages. They are most excited about the variety of drawing tools and colors they can choose from to write with on the page. They also love recording their voices when they read sight words or sentences they have written. I love that I can record a comment back to them and have them hear how proud I am of their work! The Seesaw program is very easy for my student's to use which has given them confidence in interacting with the IPad for learning. One student in particular has become my "go to" student for practicing new activity ideas as she has blossomed in her ability to navigate the app and master the tools such as uploading a photo into Seesaw! I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in helping my class become successful virtual learners!”

Funded Aug 25, 2018We were so excited to receive the new white boards and Expo markers that I forgot to take our picture opening the box! We all admired how shiny and clean the new white boards were! The children were thrilled to find out that the boards were magnetic too! We had to spend a little time exploring what that meant! The kiddos remarked that it was very cool that you could make the magnetic letters stick to the boards!
We began using our new materials right away! We started with our Phonics lessons. Using the lined side of the white boards and the Expo markers made it easy for us to practice writing letters and words together during our whole group guided practice time. While I modeled writing on the Smart Board the students were able to follow along writing on their white boards. It was so much faster and easier for me to see how everyone was doing and to help those who needed it quickly. Next we began using the white boards with magnetic letters during our small group instruction time. The students build the word, read the word, and write the word. The magnetic white boards have been instrumental in making this learning time organized, focused and engaging! We have even used the white boards and markers during the math lessons. Students have used the boards to practice writing numbers, drawing sets for the numbers and even to compare sets of numbers.
We have used the white boards and Expo markers every day since we received them and we will all year long! The experiences the students have had using these materials have helped them to become more confident in their abilities as writers, readers and mathematicians! That confidence will grow as they continue to use these tools to learn to write sentences and stories or to draw and solve math story problems and write number sentences. Your generosity in providing the magnetic white boards and markers have truly made my students "White Board Writing Wonders"! We can't thank you enough!”

Funded Aug 13, 2018I was thrilled to receive the new carpet for my classroom! It came in very quickly; right in time for Meet the Teacher prior to the start of school. I was so excited to show it off to all of the new students and their parents as they came to meet us and see their new classroom for the first time! They all loved it! This colorful new carpet really gives our classroom an inviting and friendly appearance!
The rug has been very useful for many different things in our classroom. Each color row on the carpet has a matching bin on the student's tables. This helps with classroom management and transitions. Students know that they sit on the color row on the carpet that matches the color bin at their table. We have also used the carpet to practice skills through games such as math counting and sorting in the colored squares. We have played a version of "musical chairs" using alphabet cards and walking the perimeter of the rug to music. The children use the four corners of the rug during centers to partner up and practice phonics or math skills. They use the front row of the rug to sit and listen with headphones in a listening center. The ideas and uses are endless!
Primarily though this new carpet is our classroom meeting place. We gather there every morning to begin our day and share something good that is happening in our lives during our morning meeting. We meet there throughout our day to learn in whole group the content of the lessons. We end our day together on the carpet and review the things that we did and learned. We share a goodbye song together. This carpet really is the heart of our classroom! It will be for many children for years to come! We can't thank you enough for your generosity!”
