The students at Maynard Holbrook Jackson located in Atlanta, Georgia are students who wants to make a difference in the lives of their family and the community. They have the honor of attending the namesake of the first African American Mayor of Atlanta. They want to continue the legacy that the honorable mayor started in Atlanta. They understand the concept of reading and the ability that it has to produce exceptional scholars regardless of their socieconomics, race, or gender. It is extremely rewarding when a reluctant reader share with me privately how much he or she enjoyed the novel and explained the impact it made upon his or her life. They are urban students who are sometimes faced with more challenges, but these obstacles have only created resilience. They are polite and anxious to absorb every text placed before them. The population is approximately 800 students who often complain quietly about the mandatory school uniform because it interferes with their freedom of speech.
