Our elementary school is located in the Kensington section of North Philadelphia. 97.6% of our students come from an economically disadvantaged background. The student population at our school is multicultural. Our students have general music weekly. Selected students are chosen for the choir. We perform three major programs a year. The students are very motivated to come to music classes and choir rehearsals. This is a new program to the school. The principal added music to the school two years ago. He is very supportive of this program. With all the budget cuts, he is still keeping vocal music. The students love music! Coming to work for me is like participating in a hobby. We also have strong support from our parents. My principal has stated that music keeps our parents involved with the school.
