  • Building Classroom Community

    Funded Dec 29, 2022

My students are loving their new flexible seating, math games and puzzles! We start every day with free time, during which they play games and work on the puzzle together and end each day with independent reading, during which they get to choose "comfy chairs". This allows a gentle start and end to our day, which is wonderful in supporting students' social-emotional well-being.

This year's third grade had the misfortune of receiving remote instruction for up to a year and a half, a terrible detriment to the development and growth of social skills. Working collaboratively on a puzzle, learning while playing games and relaxing with friends has been a wonderful way to build those social connections and executive functioning skills that suffered during our covid pause.

One of my favorite phrases is "We rise by lifting others". Thank you for lifting my class up! I hope you are heartened to realize your generosity will have a positive impact for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dunlop

  • Bringing Learning to Life through Technology

    Funded May 5, 2023

Thank you so, so much for funding my project! My class will be so excited to put these items to work during our newest unit. These items will continue to serve classes for many years to come. I truly appreciate your generosity and support, now and in the past. You are awesome!”

  • Reluctant Readers Love Graphic Novels

    Funded Jan 22, 2020

Thank you so much for helping to fund my project! The students will be very excited to have a new collection of graphic novels to choose from. Getting students excited about reading is an investment in the future. Thank you for believing in me, my students and the power of reading.”

  • Family Fun = Parent Participation for New Immigrants

    Funded Sep 1, 2017

Thank you again for your generous contribution to the project Family Fun = Parent Participation for New Immigrants. This was our first year hosting weekly Family Fun days and it has been quite successful. Each week, we invite students and parents to play games together after school. The games purchased through this project have been the sole support of this initiative.

Students are always excited to play, and watching parents encourage and learn with their children is rewarding for me as a teacher. Many of our students live sheltered lives and interacting with their parents and teachers in a fun, informal setting has been a wonderful icebreaker for new students.

I hope you continue to support educational projects such as these. Your investment in my students is an investment in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dunlop

  • Engaged Learners are Responsible Learners

    Funded Dec 26, 2014

Thank you once again for contributing towards my project. Both my students and I were so excited to receive the new materials! Being part of the public school system means that shiny, new materials are hard to come by and these were a real treat.

We honestly use our whiteboards every day. During math, students solve equations and model problem solving strategies. They love it because they can quickly erase a mistake or change an answer. We also use our dry erase boards during reading to answer questions, allowing each student to share their "voice" with the class. They also come in handy for quick games or brain breaks.

We are grateful for your generosity and hope you receive good karma in return.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dunlop

  • Smartboard Software for Special Students

    Funded Dec 8, 2012

I must once again thank you for your generous donation towards the purchase of smart board games for my students. I never cease to be astonished at the generosity of contributors to donorschoose.org!

Since we received the games, the student have been enjoying them immensely. The skills they practice are the reading and math skills necessary for them to achieve success in the third grade. Additionally, the variety of game formats we received ensure that they don't grow bored.

The special-needs students in our class do not experience success as often or as readily as most students, but you have given them a reason to look forward to learning! May your kindness be returned to you someday.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dunlop

  • Book Clubs Foster Future Readers and Leaders!

    Funded Mar 21, 2012

As the school year draws to a close, I want to thank you for your generous donations to our classroom book collection. The students love participating in book clubs and having sets of high-interest, quality literature made the experience even better! Some students have even begun to form their own small book clubs, borrowing the same book from the library as a friend and calling or meeting to discuss the book.

Not only have the students enjoyed this experience, but they have gained enormous academic benefits as well. The level of questioning and discussion that takes place in my classroom has blossomed and I am pleased that they will be able to take these skills with them to the next grade.

Having the resources to build a love of reading and the sharing of books has been a wonderful experience for myself as a teacher. I thank you again on behalf of myself, my class and the students who will benefit from these resources in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dunlop

  • Learning to Love Learning!!

    Funded Sep 19, 2011

I want to thank you once again for your contributions towards my classroom reading games. The students have a wonderful time playing them and are learning valuable skills in the process. Many of the questions in the games are similar to those the students will encounter on this year's NYS Reading Test, which they will take for the first time this year. Preparing for these exams can be tedious and bland, but the reading games make them a fun part of our everyday routines.

You have also demonstrated to my students that the world is a kind place where we care for one another. Perhaps your altruistic gesture will inspire my students to "pay it forward" one day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dunlop

  • Every Child is a Special Star

    Funded Jan 7, 2011

Thank you so much for your generosity in helping to purchase a flip camera for our classroom. My students and I have been enjoying using the flip camera in our classroom. We filmed several trips, including the Queens Zoo and the Hall of Science. We have also filmed the students reading their poetry and doing book reviews. It has been wonderful to have the opportunity to express ourselves in new and artistic ways.

I look forward to using the flip camera with future classes and further incorporating the videos into our curriculum.

Thank you once again for your kindness!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dunlop
