  • Creating a Calm Environment for Children with Autism

    Funded Nov 25, 2010

Your generous gifts have made a huge impact on our classroom. The light filters provide a calm environment and the children who are sensitive to light have shown tremendous growth and are learning more. The noise-blocking headphones diffuse the sound so that children only hear what they need to hear. The watch timer has been helpful in reminding children when they need breaks. The study carrels help to keep children focused on their work and blocks out external distractions.

Due to the economy, without your help the children would have never received these supplies. With your help children with special needs have received supplies necessary to their learning.

Without you the learning that has occurred in my classroom would have never been a reality. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kruse

  • We Need a Table and an Easel for Small Group Learning

    Funded Dec 4, 2009

Thank you so much for the table and easel. My students have benefited from the table and easel in many ways. We use both items on a daily basis.

The table which our class now refers to as the "yellow table" has come in handy so we can do "book talks," conduct small group learning, and work on specific skills the students need. They love working at the table because they said they feel like adults at a meeting and it makes them feel special. Additionally, it has supported their social growth because they are more attentive listeners when they are facing each other they have opportunities to have meaningful conversations about their learning. Before the "yellow table" our students sat on the floor for group learning. It was uncomfortable and they had a difficult time maintaining attention.

The easel has so many different uses. We use the easel for both large group and small group instruction. We have been able to increase the engagement of the children through interactive lessons where they get to take turns using the easel. Additionally, the easel has become a place to store writing tools, paper, and chart pads.

Thank you so much again fr making a huge difference in so many children's lives. Not only will my current students benefits, but due to your generosity all students who enter my room will benefit.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kruse
