Knitting for Lifelong Learning - We Still Need Your Help
Funded May 25, 2012Thank you so much for your donations to our knitting club. The continued support our knitting club has received over the last few years has enabled hundreds of students to learn a craft which they will use and pass on through out the years, and to earn elective and art credits towards graduating with their high school diploma.
Students of all varieties participate, including parenting teens, "fashionistas", young men, artistic students, not so artistic students, etc. Most develop a sense of pride in learning how to make something with their hands and feel fantastic when they are able to knit gifts for family and friends.
The materials you helped provide for them are beautiful! Colorful yarn in various textures to help them learn how combine colors to design custom creations. Thanks to your generosity, students have the opportunity to experiment and learn the patience necessary to start a project and see it through to the end - sometimes they get to start again, and that is okay because that is part of the creative process.”

Knitting for Life-Long Learning - More Students Need You!
Funded May 14, 2011As the holidays rapidly approach I am taking time to count my blessings. One of the best and most rewarding blessings I am celebrating is the ability to provide my students with our knitting club. Students are making scarves, booties (for their babies, some yet to be born), heart shaped pillows, teddy bears, etc. It is difficult to express the enthusiasm, joy, and creativity they demonstrate as they select projects, and then choose the yarn, needles, etc. with which to complete their creations. Many have progressed beyond the basics to the degree that I have been inspired to take my skills up several notches by trying new styles, stitches, and patterns.
Other schools have heard about our knitting club, and admit that they are a bit envious that they do not have one, which is really cool because sometimes we must admit that no matter how hard we work to provide our students with opportunities, there are some programs we can not offer due to limited funds and staffing.
This opportunity would not be available to our students with out you and your kindness. As you spend time with family and friends, please remember the difference you have made in the lives of our students by providing them with the ability to learn, grow, and graduate from high school.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Wright
Knitting for Life Long Learning - Students Can't Enough!
Funded Jul 14, 2010Even as an English teacher I am having a difficult time finding the words to describe the feelings I get, and in fact, the feelings and emotions our entire staff are experiencing when we see students, male and female, knitting in our club on Tuesday afternoons. Teachers and staff members have heard about our knitting club and stop by to see it for themselves, and several have joined with our students. Imagine the vision of young men, many who view themselves as quite "macho", knitting away, making scarves for their aunts, girlfriends, and babies. It is beautiful! Several of our young mothers have shared with me that knitting calms and relaxes them - even more than listening to music!
What is equally heart warming and amazing is that this is just the beginning because as we are now entering our second semester, more students are arriving each Tuesday and asking to join. The students who have been with me since the first semester are now teaching the new students and assisting me in organizing the materials, etc.
Our knitting club is so successful thanks to all of you and your generosity. Students are earning Art and Elective credits towards their graduation while learning patience and persistence. It is so cute to see the girls chatting and forming relationships while sharing the details of their lives. Our knitters are telling people all over campus how happy they are and how much they enjoy knitting and being in the club.
I can honestly tell you that the best part of my job has been hostessing this club. Thank you so much for helping me pass on what other kind people taught me many years ago.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Wright
Knitting for Life Long Learning
Funded Jun 2, 2005II can't thank you enough for providing these materials to our students. Over the last year I have taught many students how to knit. It is especially therapeutic for our young mothers as knitting is something they can do while their babies sleep and it is quite a stress reducer. Your generosity will enable many students to experience the joy of learning, designing and creating something in which they can take pride. Knitting is a life long craft that they will pass along and share with their loved ones.
In addition to these wonderful benefits, students will also earn the elective and crafts credits they need to graduate from high school.
Thank you so much!

Arts and Crafts for Electives
Funded Dec 10, 2004Thank you so much for your generosity. My students are so excited and feel very honored that someone cares enough to provide them with the materials they need to not only express their creative energies, but to earn credits in Art so they can graduate that much sooner. When I told them that someone had funded our request, they could hardly believe it.
We are all looking forward to the arrival of the supplies and then showing you what we have been able to do thanks to your kindness.
Thank you once again,
