Our community is economically diverse, with our school district qualifying for Title I status. Students’ exposure to electronic devices vary. The students’ ability to use the devices in ways to engage in collaboration and problem solving also differs. As a result, a cycle of limited availability and students being unprepared to compete continues leaving many students in our district behind their peers. Without the necessary 21st century skills and access to technology, these students will keep falling farther behind. In our inclusion classroom, our students love using technology! Although we only have one Chromebook in our classroom and limited access to the school’s Chromebook cart, we look to incorporate these devices to support our teaching as often as possible. We use technology to address fine motor difficulties, for behavioral motivation, as a research tool, as well as a review of skill development. Not only do our students enjoy using technology, but it is also a necessity.
