  • Supplying a New Classroom With Necessities

    Funded Sep 2, 2023

Thank you so much for the materials you helped to provide. My school district isn't very wealthy, and beginning the year with very few supplies left me worried that my students wouldn't be able to do any of the fun projects I usually do with my middle school students. Because of your generosity, my students had the supplies they needed to create their various hands-on projects.

A portion of the students I teach are working on Project Citizen activities, which means they are creating portfolios, and presenting them, all for the opportunity to possibly make a difference in their communities.

The rest of my students have had the opportunity to explore American History with a deeper understanding, by being creative and producing artifacts that illustrate their understanding of our country's history.

Your donations have made a difference for my students. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cyr

  • Back to Reality Escape Room Fun!

    Funded Aug 6, 2019

Transitioning from summer to the new school year isn't always smooth and welcomed by all students. I have students who have terrible lives outside of school, and come to school because it's where they can get 3 meals, see their friends, and stay warm during the winter months. However, they don't like school.

I chose to begin my school year with my new students with a Minecraft escape room. This group LOVES video games (as most 7th graders do), and especially Minecraft. So when I presented them with the escape room activity, many were excited to do it.

Since that day we have done one more escape room as an incentive for meeting our classroom goals, and it works as an end of quarter wrap-up as well. They like the challenges and it's a great motivator to achieve our goals. Not only that, but starting the year with this team-building activity was a great way to begin the year, it also helped me figure out who works well with who, and which students need to work more on their team-working skills.

Thank you donor for your generous donation. My students and I appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cyr

  • Magnify our Learning with Microscopes!

    Funded Jan 26, 2014

The first item we received was the regular microscope. Immediately, my students were brainstorming what kind of items they could put under it to get a closer look. They wanted to see their fingers, their hair, torn paper, rocks, you name it, they wanted to get a closer look of it with their new microscope. The scientists were unleashed!

The next day they collected items from home and we labeled little zipper baggies with the items. There was dog and rabbit hair, pencil led, erasers, fabric, paper with lip balm, with nail polish, two types of wood bark, even a little nail file. We then explored some of these items, taking a closer look at them all.

This past week we received the electronic microscope and the magnifying glasses. While some students stuck with me at our table to see what things looked like under the electronic microscope and compare the differences between this one and the first microscope, the rest of the class had fun exploring with the magnifying glasses. What first appeared to me as fooling around, I later learned what discoveries they were making. "Miss, you should see how the bathroom tile has all of these little rocks in it!" "Did you know that not all of the paper is covered with ink for a word on a page?" "You should see how cool the rug fibers look under the microscope!" and other statements like these were heard around the classroom.

Our world of endless possibilities are now limitless with our new microscopes and magnifying glasses. Best of all, with our electronic microscope, we can share some of our discoveries with the world! My students and I thank you both from the bottom of our hearts.”

  • We'll Never Stop Learning to Read

    Funded Sep 5, 2012

Oh the excitement my students felt when we opened up our box of new books that you funded for our classroom! I had carefully chosen genres that would appeal to my students, and they have been reading them ever since. Once I told them that our project was funded, they asked me almost daily when our books were arriving. You can just imagine their excitement when we found the box on our table one day after lunch.

I can't say enough how much my students and I appreciate your generosity. Starting a new classroom with very little for reading books, receiving the books you funded has been such a gift for our classroom. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cyr

  • Classroom Projector

    Funded Aug 9, 2012

At the start of our school year, my students and I received a document camera. However, we didn't have a projector that was available for us to use on a daily basis. This didn't allow for the spontaneous teaching and learning to take place that we need. Now with our new projector that you funded for our classroom, the projector stays in our classroom all the time and we're constantly using it.

The children were so excited when we found the box in our room and helped me open it. We worked together to hook it up to our document camera and began using it right away. This projector is a blessing to have in our classroom, and I've also had the pleasure of using it with my colleagues as well.

I don't know how else to say how much my students and I appreciate your generosity. The projector was greatly needed and is used daily, in fact, it's on for most of the day. Thank you so much for funding our project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cyr

  • Sharing with a Document Camera

    Funded Jul 2, 2012

My students and I are thoroughly enjoying our document camera! They were so excited when we found the box left on my desk and we unpacked it together. I think they were as excited as I was to get it, even though they didn't fully understand what it was capable of. Since that day, we have used it daily, several times a day even. In fact, just today I lent it to my neighbor for her presenter and we missed having it in class. Just the 20 minutes that it was gone, we kept coming up with times it would have been useful to have it.

One benefit we recently discovered is that w use it directly on the white board so we're able to make our corrections, or diagram our egg, as you can see from one of our pictures. When we do our 3 minute math drills, I place my iPad with the timer set right under the camera so they can see when I begin the drill and how much time they have. There are so many uses for this camera. The thing we love best is that we can put anything under that camera and it will display it. I don't have to make transparencies to review any of our skills with them, I can just place the worksheet and they can even come up to the cart and write on the worksheet for the rest of the class to see.

I could go on forever praising how grateful we are to have the document camera you so graciously and generously donated. We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your generosity has definitely enhanced my teaching and their learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cyr

  • Middle School Students 'Traveling with Charlie'

    Funded Nov 28, 2011

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. Your gift has helped my students see America through a different lens, as well as made them aware of how our country has evolved as a nation. They get a glimpse of a nation recovering economically and politically from WWII and the Korean War, and experience some of the effects of the Civil Right's Movement first hand. They also get an opportunity to see their own little corner of the world (Aroostook County) through Steinbeck's eyes.

Like many other school districts, our district is dealing with budget cuts, which makes it difficult to explore other genres out there if we don't already have the books in hand. Your donation has enabled my students to receive this opportunity to expand their horizons.

Without donors like you, my students, as well as many other students, wouldn't be able to receive new opportunities. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cyr
