  • Helping Students with School Essentials Due to COVID 19 Pandemic

    Funded Aug 10, 2020

I truly don't know how to begin to express my gratitude for the donations to our classroom. These items help diminish significant triggers that can interfere with the learning environment. This donation will help our classroom sail through the end of the year with ease and help us remain focused on our academic progress.

The students were so thrilled to see the huge boxes being delivered to our classroom; of course the students had lots of questions and were curious about what was in the boxes. Once I opened the boxes it was breathtaking to see their little faces shine like a star. They have never seen so many glue sticks, colors, markers, and construction paper in their life.

This project has allowed my students to focus tremendously on their studies and not worry about not having materials to work with. It also provided a tremendous amount of relief to my parents.

The resources and materials are being used daily in our classroom. A lot of my First graders work is very authentic, so we have been using a lot of construction paper, crayons to color, and glue to glue their wonderful work. The students have an opportunity to clean and wipe their tables with the Clorox wipes that we ordered without feeling left out. This product was greatly appreciated because this keeps my room germ free. Fortunately, everyone has been in school daily which means PERFECT ATTENDANCE for our classroom. They have not lost any instruction time.”

  • Let's be the Greatest Mathematicians on Earth!

    Funded Mar 8, 2021

These materials helped my students tremendously during math. It's so hard having my students share materials during this pandemic, but because of the wonderful individual kits my kiddos were successful with math. My hybrid students also had the opportunity to physically work with the individual manipulatives at home while I was teaching them virtually. These individual math manipulative kits allowed my virtual and my in person students to practice their skills during whole group lessons while I was modeling. It allowed them to also build and model math problems.”

  • Caring for Social Emotional Healthy Minds

    Funded Feb 23, 2021

This year has been very challenging for my kiddos and me. My students were extremely excited when they received the Donors Choose boxes from Amazon and LakeShore Learning. The soft seats has helped my students tremendously with meditation and having less stress throughout the year. The students also loved the Pete the Cat lesson with our brand new books which allowed me to teach a lesson about kindness and how we should treat people with respect. Each student went home with their personal book and socks. They were so grateful to receive their personal books. Throughout the year I have been utilizing the social emotional books throughout my lessons during my SEL circle time. Thank you for allowing my kiddos to have a great successful year!”

The students that make up my classroom are 99% low income and at risk for dropping out before finishing high-school. Many of our students have been affected by Hurricane Harvey and are struggling emotionally and financially due to being displaced. They are students who have been not given the resources or motivation for academic success. There is very little literacy provided at home. They are precious children who are willing to learn, if only given the opportunity.
