Since I have students from age 6 to 12, I need seating options that will work for a wide range of kid sizes! Standard sized chairs are too tall for the younger kids and older kids don't fit in the short chairs! Plus, the modular seating of the soft stools will allow us to move around the classroom to set up small groups and partners for easier collaborative work. Additionally, students will not be forced to sit in chairs that do not provide enough leg room or in chairs designed for taller people. My gifted learners love to rearrange the room during project work and we often need more floor space for hands-on activities. This resource class hosts gifted students from grades 1 through 5 and includes interdisciplinary enrichment education in all subject areas. I try to use the majority of the class space for student engagement rather than storage and like to provide options for students to choose how they prefer to work. Having optional seating and a variety of table and desk options will help me make the best use of the space in my classroom. It was once part of the original kitchen of the school, is very small in size, has a split ceiling, and a central beam in the middle of the room. This makes traditional furniture cumbersome to use! I'm hoping to add some smaller pieces that are easy to move and redesign!
