Our days are full of engaging group work and games. In order to facilitate these activities, I push four desks together to form their groups. If one student moves his desk, the team breaks apart and learning suffers. The room also gets crowded when the desks move apart from their groups, and it's harder for the students and me to walk around.
With new tables, the teams will stay together and have more room to move around during our games and activities. When I distribute group supplies, I could put them in the middle of a table rather than on one of the student's desks. It would also be so much easier to rearrange the room. With the increased space, we would have more freedom for my active students to get out of their seats and do more kinesthetic learning if they could sit at tables instead of desks.
