  • Ready, Set, Learn!

    Funded Aug 28, 2012

I would like thank all of you for your generosity in donating to my students. It is so wonderful to know that I know so many caring people. My students will be receiving their supplies within a week or so. This is perfect timing for the start of school. My students will be able to begin their year with the supplies they need to make them head for success! So many times, we take for granted that all students have what they need to begin the school year. This is not always the case! With your help, my students will now be ready to start the year ready to achieve their goals!!

Thank you again so very much!

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zibell

  • Inspirational Literacy: Teens and the Recording Arts

    Funded Jul 15, 2012

Your contributions to my classroom have meant a great deal to me and my students. While we have resources to provide the basics for a traditional English classroom, we often do not have the means to offer meaningful enrichment. Having microphones and equipment allowed us to do professional recording of our poetry and writing, which honors our students' effort and helps them develop their public speaking abilities.

In one of our more meaningful projects, we used poetry as a lens with which to look at the tone and themes of Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. The students were particularly engaged with Langston Hughes' I, Too. We used the poem as a stepping stone to having the kids produce, record, and present their own poetry. For a majority of my kids, this was the first non-rhyming and non-formula poem they had ever written.

As a result, these students had an entire world of writing possibilities open up before their eyes. Further, through the opportunity to record the "back story" to their poetry, a la This American Life, students connected a piece representative of the time TKAM is set to their very own lives. This would not have had the impact without your generous donation.

Even better news: the work continues on into the future, and many more students from a largely poor, urban background will benefit from the richness of their own spoken word.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rebne

  • Drumming Through Dissonance

    Funded Aug 30, 2012

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donations in support of Music Education. Since the drumset has arrived, the classroom atmosphere for learning has improved and students want to keep playing even when classes and after-school rehearsals are over. Attendance rates of my students have doubled, and they are more fully engaged with deep learning and discovering. My students are developing a rich sense of beauty and always creating music together with the collective imagination.

Your donations provide tools for my students to think cooperatively and effectively communicate with one another. Students can also express themselves non-verbally while developing increased self-awareness and self-confidence. Students' thinking grows critically and analytically each day, and their fine motor skills increase every rehearsal. Thank you for opening the eyes of our children, the future of our civilization, to unified joy, fulfillment, imagination, beauty, creation, and of course, Music!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sartori

  • Art! Art! Please Save Our Art!

    Funded Aug 31, 2012

I am so thankful for your generous donation to my classroom. We use the art supplies that you donated daily. We have made bat hats, displayed what bats eat, made spiders, eagles as well as created our colorful fish as part of our ocean environment. The students have thoroughly enjoyed bringing out the art supplies and just being creative. I love watching their minds think through their projects and seeing the pride they have when their projects are complete.

Our school is currently facing a budget shortage, so without your help, my students would not have had as many supplies as they have now. Kindergarteners' need that time to stop and allow their creative minds to go to work. Thanks again for your wonderful donation and for supporting of my classroom. My students and I are very grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. R.

  • Organization = Success

    Funded Aug 28, 2012

I want to thank you so much for supporting me, my classroom, and more importantly my students by donating to my Donors Choose project! My students love their binders and are learning the very important skill of organization. They have weekly binder checks where they receive a grade for the neatness of their binders and the completeness of their work. As a prize for high grades on their binder checks, my students were rewarded with a DNA candy lab where they got to create DNA double-helixes out of candy. They were really looking forward to this and worked extra hard to ensure they kept their binders neat and their work organized! Thank you again for donating to this project, it means the world to me and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eid

  • Rockin' Recorders for Marvelous Musicians

    Funded Sep 5, 2012

Thank you so much for funding my project. The recorders are used every day in my classroom. The students love to play the recorders. The recorders have brought a lot of joy to my students. They are eager to play the recorders every day they have music class. They love having their own instruments to play.

I do not know how to tell you what a relief it has been to receive this assistance for my classroom. I have not been able to provide basic necessities for my classroom that my students deserve. DonorsChoose.org is helping me to change this fact. My students love it when they find out one of our projects was funded. By helping to fund this project you let my students know that someone believes in them. You have given me more courage and strength to continue teaching.

Thank you so much for your generosity! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fox

  • Making Music Tech Accessible to All Kids

    Funded Jun 30, 2012

I wanted to thank each of you again for your generous donation to my project, Making Music Technology Accessible to All Kids! The keyboards have allowed more students to participate in learning about music, composition and performance this year.

The students have been able to participate in the class by working individually on music lessons, yet also learning to perform with a group or ensemble. Some of the students have written music and published the music to our website and to Cd's in the last few weeks.

Our students have had a lot of fun playing on the keyboards and look forward to working with them again in the coming semester.

Without your donation, many students would not have the opportunity to participate. We appreciate you all very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Garrett

  • Sounds of Music

    Funded Sep 3, 2012

Your generous donation has given my students the pleasure of rhythm and melody, making learning fun and exciting. The gift of chimes, a listening center junction box and compact discs give the children many different experiences with music through out the day.

The chimes are used not only to explore the different sounds and combinations of sounds but also attune the students hearing which helps them when listening for sounds of letters in words during reading and writing. The listening center junction box makes listening to music a personal and fun activity. They hear songs, nursery rhymes and stories together. Listening with headphones enhances the experience. We listen to the compact discs as a transition from one activity to another as well as for fun during movement and art activities.

My school is operating under severe budget cuts. Without your help these experiences would not be possible.”

  • Reading Through Music

    Funded Aug 29, 2012

I am so very grateful for your donations to my project. I chose "Mike Mulligan and his Steamshovel" for the pictures. I have already used all six CDs in my classroom, but I chose this book for the pictures because the children were absolutely smitten with it.

This class has many ESL learners. With this story and the music that was beautifully woven into it, even children who are unfamiliar with English were able to understand the beautiful message within the book: We all have something to contribute to the greater good.

Your contribution to my project made this experience, and many more with the other five stories included, possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Weible

  • Making Music With Technology

    Funded Jul 5, 2012

I can not tell you how excited the kids are to see something from a computer on the wall. This projector is so neat. Last week we did a lesson on the instrument families and we visited the sight for the SanFrancisco orchestra. The students were able to see the instruments and listen to them. While we were there we also explored tempo and dynamics. It was really amazing to see the students get an instant result when changing tempos and dynamics. It really made it come alive. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful gift. It will effect hundreds of students for years to come. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Muckle
