  • Study Tools to Dig Our Way Out of 2020 Valley

    Funded May 17, 2021

Thank you so much for giving to this project! The overall benefit is difficult to measure, but it was far reaching. This project helped get us through one of the hardest times and school years. We needed more supports for students at this time and were so thankful to have access to these technology resources which were not available to us otherwise. The reading supports in the absence of physical books, the audiobooks and research tools we were given access to for all subjects: science, social studies, ELA, and many others. The online live tutoring option alone enabled students who were struggling and home alone as parents worked or didn't have the help they needed at home were able to gain some ground in closing the gap in achievement, despite overall deficits as a result of in person learning.”

  • If Books Were Colors, Graphic Novels Are the New Black!

    Funded Jul 6, 2023

Thank you for your generosity towards our students! We are currently enjoying these books in small groups for book clubs throughout classrooms across our school. Students enjoy Reading Wednesdays where they have built in time for reading and they get to create their own discussion questions and share what they think of the books with their small groups. Our book club has read several of these titles as a whole group and created posters, book talks and school flyers to share out what they liked/disliked/loved/hated about the books. It has been an incredibly enriching experience. It never would have happened with these books if it weren't for you!”

We are beyond grateful to have raised enough money to buy books for our book club at Lincoln High School! Connecting to the authors of books they are reading is a powerful way to enrich learning and deepen meaning while linking these experiences to their own lives and current events. Knowing the "story behind the story" can change the whole experience of reading, especially as a group and propel meaningful book discussions. Our students want to ask questions about the books they are reading and dialogue on the connections these books have to imperative conversations around social justice, gender equality, policies concerning refugees and immigrants, hate crimes, police brutality and much more. We have reached out to three dynamic authors and look forward to reading these books and then engaging in conversations with each of them.
