  • Healthy Snacks for First Graders Recovering From Hurricane Florence

    Funded Nov 20, 2018

Thank you so much Duke Power Company for caring about our children in our area that was hit hard by the recent hurricanes! Your help during the hurricane was so appreciated! Students are back in school and many of their immediate needs, such as snacks and drinks will be meet by your generosity.

Now that students and parents are trying to put their lives back together, you have again stepped up and helped us by supplying healthy snacks and drinks for my first graders. Thank you so much for your generosity and compassion for my students."”

    With gratitude,

  • Becoming Mathematicians With Hands On Learning

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom! The math resources are being used by my students every day. We are learning so much by having hands on activities instead of just paper and pencil!

My students were able to immediately start using the supplies and have already mastered many concepts and skills necessary for our math curriculum.

I can't thank you enough for your contribution to our classroom. Thank you so much for caring about the children in coastal North Carolina.”

  • Hands-on Science Means Life Long Learners!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My class was so delighted with the Science Centers! They love Science and also enjoy working together with their class buddies! We have spent many afternoons rotating the Science Centers so that each pair of buddies has the chance to work with one of the centers.

As you can see from the pictures they are having fun learning! They also have to write about what they have learned from the center and in some cases, draw or diagram a new idea. Science is such a favorite with any student, and these centers keep them engaged and always learning and discussing with the buddy and then the class what they have discovered.

Thank you so much for your generosity in helping my class learn and discover their own ideas about the world around them. I cannot thank you enough for helping my students become little scientists!”

  • Engaging Families To Read Together 2

    Funded Jan 26, 2018

My students were so happy to have their Take Home bags with books and CD players! They want to share everything with their parents. Reading might be difficult for some parents because of the language barrier. With books on CD my student's can share their reading no matter what language is spoken at home.

The bags are so nice and colorful, it was amazing to see how happy my students were to receive their special bag with a book to take home. We will let students check the books out so they will always have a new one, or if they want, they can take the same book home for overnight reading with the parents and siblings.

Good reading books need to be in every child's home. This is one way of making sure all students have the same opportunities for reading at home.

Thank you so much for funding our classroom project! You have made 20 students in North Carolina very happy with your generous and caring donation!”

  • Engaging Families To Read Together

    Funded Dec 31, 2017

My students were overjoyed to receive the books on CD and the adapters to use with their CD players! First graders read a lot! This is the grade that they really need to be able to read and comprehend what they are reading. We spend so much of our time reading and then discussing what was read.

The books on Cd will help so much with reading books independently. They will listen to the books being read, while tracking the words with their fingers. This will help so much with learning new words and also with comprehension of the stories.

I hope you can tell from the pictures how happy they are to have their new books and also the technology that goes along with the Cds. Thank you so much for your very generous donations and for caring about a class in North Carolina.”

  • Special Needs for Exceptional Children

    Funded Dec 30, 2016

Thank you so much for the Retelling Easel, crayons, and pencil grippers that you contributed to our class. My students loved retelling stories using the felt backed easel. They were able to learn the beginning, middle and end of their stories using pictures and then writing.

The grippers were so helpful for my students who had difficulty holding a pencil. This is such a hard skill to learn for so many young children.

My students used the crayons and loved having all the colors they wanted to create their beautiful pictures! This helped them become better writers because they added details in their writing to match the detailed drawings.

Thank you so much for your kindness to a small group of children. One act of kindness has made such a difference in the lives of these children.”

  • Math And Science Means Hands On STEM Learning!

    Funded Aug 17, 2016

Thank you so much for your generosity in giving my students this Math and Science Stem package. My students love to work with their buddies. They team up and move anywhere in our room that gives them the space they need to complete their project. The materials and supplies you sent to us helped so much in their ability to work together without interruption such as looking for a supply that they might need.

They are builders and thinkers and using the supplies we were given helps them build these skills as they figure out problems together and combine their efforts to complete a project.

I can't thank you enough for giving my Kinders this opportunity to foster their critical thinking skills and learn to love math and science!”

  • Scholastic News "Let's Find Out" Magazines

    Funded Aug 17, 2016

Thank you so much for your generosity in giving my Kindergarten students a gift to Scholastic News, Let's Find Out. The magazine is wonderful! My students are thrilled to be able to have a magazine to read at school and then to take home to share with their parents.

The subscription is very expensive and there would not be an opportunity for my students to receive this subscription without the kindness and generosity of people like yourself.

With this subscription my students are able to view online and in person many of the cultures and environments of places all over the world. It is so interesting and written at their level of comprehension. I cannot thank you enough for this gift of learning that you have given my Kinders!”

  • Time For Kids Means Time For Learning!

    Funded Jul 26, 2016

Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness in giving my students a subscription of Time for Kids magazine. My students have truly enjoyed reading the articles and having their own magazine to take home and share with their families.

My students do not have access to a large library or many cultural resources so Time for Kids gives them a look into life beyond our rural community. My Spanish speaking students especially love sharing their magazines with their families and telling them about the activities that they participated in that go along with the magazines.

My students could not have learned so much about the environment and the world around them if it had not been for your caring about a group of students in rural North Carolina. Thank you so much for giving to my classroom.”

  • Back To Basics In Kindergarten

    Funded Nov 16, 2015

I cannot begin to describe how important this package was to my students. They have been using the crayons, scissors, and glue sticks for a few months now. We have made such wonderful pictures and their writing has really taken off. They started coloring with details and soon their writing began to be colorful also.

Sometimes a family does not realize how important basic school tools are since they are worried about more immediate needs. With the help and support from Jemma Blythe, EMP Museum and Paul G. Allen Foundation, my students will not have to do without through no fault of their own. They can work confidently in school, knowing they have all the supplies needed to do their work.

Thank you so much for giving to my classroom. You have given more than just supplies, you have given them the motivation to do the best they can do. Thank you so much.”

I am a First grade teacher at a Title I school. We are located in a beautiful, small community near the sea. We serve mostly rural families. Our school is very active and we strive to continuously learn! My students this year are very diverse. I have an ESL cluster group along with my high achieving students. We have experienced major budget cuts in NC and we do not have money for extras such as hands-on activities that help teach science and math and enhance learning for all. My goal is to have my students learn what is mandated by my county and then to go beyond this curriculum and foster curiosity about the world around them. I feel that knowing about the environment and nature will help them know themselves and become confident adults, able to compete globally in any field they choose.
