Drop the Mic! Sound Mixer for the Media Center
Funded Jan 9, 2020The students at CAMS are so very grateful for your generous donation (once again!). I can tell you that the minute we got our delivery box from the office, I had my students un-boxing and setting up the sound mixer right away! Setting up this sound mixer was a great learning opportunity for my 8th graders because they figured out on their own how to set it up and configure it to our needs! It was an on-going learning process, but they worked together to use real-life problem-solving skills to get this new piece of equipment up and running for our school!
We use it every day for school news, and students tell us all the time that they have noticed a tremendous improvement with the sound quality. I also have 8th graders making a how-to video showing the underclassmen how to use the sound mixer. During the next grading period (4th nine weeks), all of my classes will be going through learning stations, and the sound mixer/green room will be one of their learning stations! They will watch an instructional video created by my 8th graders to learn how to use and care for this piece of equipment, then they will get their hands-on learning with their green room project! They are so excited for this opportunity, and those students who have used it said they feel like professionals when they are at the controls for it! We at CAMS cannot thank you enough for your sincere generosity and continuous support of our school and media program! Thank you so much for everything you have done to help bring amazing new learning tools to the hands of our students!”

Tripod for "Cams" at C.A.M.S.
Funded Jan 10, 2019My students in Digital Media are using the new tripod and tripod-dolly every day on a regular basis. There is literally not one class period that goes by when it is not being used because my kiddos have been so busy filming projects the past few months! They love moving around the school with it to capture footage and highlight special moments of their school year. Now that we have 2 higher-end cameras, we really needed that additional sturdy tripod to secure the cameras and wireless microphone sets. The student-made videos have turned out so nice and professional, and the kids have told me that they truly feel like professionals using this equipment that you so generously donated! It is very easy to move and use - it's not just limited to use in the media center. I have actually had students sign out the tripod and dolly to use for filming in other classes all throughout the school. Thank you again so much for your generosity and kindness. The students of CAMS and myself are very thankful for thoughtful members of our community like you who truly have made a great impact at our school!”

Cams for C.A.M.S Media Center
Funded Mar 27, 2018The video camera is used non-stop at CAMS!! It's so great having a video camera that has external microphone connectivity! The students absolutely love taking it out around the school to interview their peers, teachers and staff around the middle school!
This is such an engaging learning tool for the students as they are able to be at the center of their learning experience through videography! The camera has been used on our tripod dolly to film the fall pep rally, interviewing around the school, revolutionary war reenactments for history classes, videoing and explaining science experiments, school news broadcasts, and so much more! The students who are filming, editing, and viewing their peers' projects are all benefiting from this product you helped bring to the students at our school.
In addition to facilitating the media center where this camera is housed, this year, I'm teaching a brand new class called Digital Media which has 171 students enrolled, and the camera is used every period of the day that this class is taught in addition to it being used for school news and when other classes visit the media center for projects. The kids absolutely love it and have shown so much creativity in their filming and editing skills across all curriculums in the school.
Not every student learns through traditional note-taking, worksheets, and listening to lectures. I have witnessed students who struggle in traditional learning environments thrive with this hands-on learning tool, as those types of learners work best in hands-on settings where they can show creativity through their learning and through tinkering. During the first few weeks of Digital Media class, I handed over the camera kit, mobile tripod and other tech gadgets to a few students who academically struggle in traditional learning environments and said: "Go ahead, and figure out how to set all of this up and assemble!" And low and behold, those students worked together and got it all up and running in no time!! The end-products that they create from their video capturing and the original ideas they bring to life amaze me continuously!!
Thank you so very much for enabling our students to have their hands on such a great learning tool with endless possibilities! They absolutely love using this camera and its accessories, and we hope to get more as our demand has grown now tremendously!”
