  • Exploring Computer Science Professional Development New York Course

    Funded Jul 17, 2017

I am so excited to be able to learn more about code and delivering great experiences to students learning about languages and interacting with their peers. They can take quizzes and track learning over a period of time and learn a language where they are. Learning needs to be available to students in a digital form. If we can bring them great content on the social media applications they use every day we can help get great information where they spend their time.”

  • German Soccer Team Uniforms

    Funded Mar 30, 2017

Our German Soccer teams have been working really hard to improve and beat other languages. I am proud of them practicing and working together to learn German chants. They stay after school to practice and to play against teams from other languages. We are grateful for donations that allow us to have matching uniforms and our teams have won two games so far. Students cheer for each other and work together well as a team. The shirts help them in playing and it's great that they can match. We have been making project to have uniforms for a while since we needed so many. So many students wanted to participate and they really worked to improve their fitness. Without donors like you we couldn't improve student fitness as much and I'm grateful for the opportunity.”

  • Student Essentials Hunger Project

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

Donating to this project is a great opportunity to help students with basic needs. When basic needs aren't met students aren't able to learn and can be distracted in class. Having support available for students that might not have resources at home has been great and lowered stress for students and for me. We really appreciate your donation and helping students in our class. We are having a great year and students have been involved in extra activities with our German program. Our students were grateful for your donation and the items especially the students that struggle.”

  • Student Led Project Store German Food

    Funded Mar 30, 2017

Thank you so much for donating to our German program here at Elk Ridge Middle School. The student who wrote this project was working really hard to plan a lesson for other students. I'm grateful for the work she has put in to help other students and to learn how to talk about food. We are going to have a student restaurant and store and we are going to have students practice using the actual food. It's nice that they are also in color so students can practice adjective endings while they are talking about food.

Students are doing really well learning how to talk about food and I'm proud of them for their work.”

  • Soccer Jerseys Team Germany At Our Middle School

    Funded Feb 21, 2017

Thank you so much for helping support our German Soccer Team. We really want to beat the other teams and students come after school and practice so they can win. The Team comes after school and has even recruited some other students to come and work out with them so they are ready for teams. Students reached out to the local professional soccer team so they would come visit us. We are working to get every student a German Soccer Jersey so the team can have great experience. It's been remarkable to me to see how supportive people are of our students and to see how much work students are putting into it. Some of the most involved students are ones that wouldn't normally have something to do after school and some students that don't have great grades. I think it's made a great difference in their soccer team and in their lives.”

  • Student Parent German Soccer and Service League

    Funded Dec 9, 2016

One of the best parts about this project is that students get to record themselves speaking German and watch it to check themselves so they know how they sound. For this project some students were always recording videos on their phones and not every student has access to a phone or to data for uploading and recording. we decided we wanted to give every student the equal chance so students can check out the class camera and work on projects. Students went out of their way to learn German phrases for a student soccer league that promotes fitness. They recorded their journey. Technology can be cost prohibitive for schools and I'm proud of my students for making an effort to have authentic learning and promote student health.”

  • German Environmental Stewardship Video Project

    Funded Jan 30, 2017

My students were so excited when the drone arrived they had a hard time concentrating in class. we learned the word Oekologische Verantwortung. Germany has a long history of hiking and conservation and even has a political party that is called the "green" party and is dedicated to helping with environmental work.

Students are going to make videos in German about Utah and taking care of the environment. Many of the students talked about how the air quality in Salt Lake is not great and has been rate the worst in the US. You can see the inversion and we will be able to see how it is. Our biggest challenge will be learning all the language to make our video in German. We will be making a project to get a protection case and another battery back as well as some memory cards and a computer to make videos with. We have great language learning plans for students and they are so motivated to learn German and develop these projects. We will also be using these for our student soccer league so we can record how hard students work. I can't tell you how thrilled the students were to learn about the drone and to write about the environment. They didn't really believe that we would get the project and they are so happy.

I can't tell you how grateful I am for the honor of working with these students. You've helped us be able to learn about Utah and make student ideas come to life.”

  • German Soccer Team Jerseys and Soccer Balls

    Funded Oct 24, 2016

Our German Soccer team is so grateful for their Jerseys and team game balls from Germany. Students are motivated to practice and compete against other teams. When I told them that we were funded students were shocked and said they didn't believe it. They mentioned that the goalie gloves were really nice and they knew they could beat the other teams. They talked about how to get better and practiced drills with the new soccer balls. Our teammates were shocked at the generosity of companies like Chevron that helped let us get some of the students Jerseys. They are learning German and competing as a German team.

Students have been practicing after school for 60 minutes with several teams that are made up of students who speak German. Students are learning German soccer cheers. They talk about playing soccer in German and compete against other language teams. Students have been practicing ball handling skills and teaching language learners that have never played soccer before but are part of our teams. They formed teams from German students and we wanted to get super nice materials for them.

I'm grateful I am able to coach my students and teach them German. It creates a huge amount of team pride that we have such nice Jerseys and soccer balls. We will try to get every member of the German teams and German cheer teams materials for their games and this is such a great journey. I never thought it would be possible to get high quality German soccer materials for our teams and I'm so grateful that we have had such great support.”

  • Student Lead Health and Wellness German Soccer League Target Challenge

    Funded Oct 6, 2016

    Dear Target,

Thank you so much for supporting our German Program here at Elk Ridge Middle. We always appreciate people who help students learn and create a healthy lifestyle. Students here worked hard to practice for our soccer league. Students have been learning more about fitness and learned chants in German to encourage teammates. Students are learning language skills and recording themselves talking about the teams. Students are thrilled with the soccer balls and goals. They record their language skills and are motivated to spend more time being active each day. Their goal of practicing 60 minutes a day has been great for their health and motivation.

Without donors like you this type of learning and health experience wouldn't be possible. Great resources like a GoPro help students.

We are also working on students who want to lead each other in daily meditation and yoga in German. Students also want to hike around Utah canyons and learn about erosion and environmental change. Great things and great language skills are being created in our German program and community support makes a huge difference for students.”
