I teach art at an elementary school in my neighborhood. My school is a great representation of our neighborhood's cultural diversity. The majority of the students are English Language Learners, and many of my students live nearby, so the school communities really feel like a family and a second home. At my school, we implement a choice-based art program, where students learn to use different materials and techniques, and can then choose those that best suit their artistic exploration. There are different centers, each one dedicated to a technique or material (drawing, painting, collage, clay, printmaking, fiber and digital arts).
