Students will be able to use the Sphero robots to practice their coding skills. Students will code the robot to complete specific tasks. For example, the students will first create an obstacle course out of cardboard and classroom supplies. Then students will work in groups to code their robots to successfully get their the obstacle coarse. Students will work collaboratively to write code to allow the robot to move. This helps students to understand how the code that they write directly impacts how things work, and one mistake in the code can cause the robot to not be able to move through an obstacle course. Students learn through trial and error. They are able to start with small mazes and obstacle courses, and then as they become more experienced they can navigate more challenging ones. These robots encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and real-life skills. Hopefully by gaining this experience, students will learn to love STEM.
