  • Musical Instruments for All Students

    Funded Feb 15, 2019

My students have been showing their new instruments lots of love. The 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th graders played the flutes, clarinets and guitars in our annual spring concert. The xylophone was a hit with the younger students as well as our high school band, and it will be featured on stage at the famous Apollo Theater when our high school band performs next month in the Manhattan Borough Arts Festival!

We don't take any of our instruments for granted. We understand how special it is that so many music students at our school get to borrow school instruments and take them home to practice. When we first saw the new instruments we talked about the importance of caring for our instruments and showing gratitude.

As our music program continues to grow we will continue to strive to give each student their own instrument. The instruments we have will be loved and cared for by many different students over the years. Your contribution will have a profound impact on students' lives for years to come.”

  • Glasses for Middle School Students Looking Forward to College

    Funded Nov 17, 2016

Thanks to you, 30 of my middle school students now have stylish prescription glasses. Receiving these glasses was nothing short of life-changing for them. They say how school work, riding the bus, playing sports, playing music-- so many parts of their lives-- are better now that they can see clearly and feel good about how they look.

Seeing my students try on their new glasses for the first time was an amazing experience. Everyone couldn't stop smiling. My students were literally seeing the world in a whole new way. And everyone involved from National Eye Care and Warby Parker was very friendly and helpful, making the whole experience comfortable and fun.

My students are wearing their new glasses every day, improving their performance in school and working towards getting to and through college. Your donation has an impact every day. Thank you for helping to put my students on paths to fulfilling personal and professional lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnson

  • Making Great Music in Band and Percussion Classes

    Funded Apr 6, 2015

Thank you for providing my students with the equipment they need to create beautiful music. My band and general music classes enjoyed practicing with the metronomes at school and at home, playing the hand drums in ensembles in class, and using the reeds to play saxophone and clarinet. This equipment is appropriate for students but also authentic, allowing them to practice and perform music like professionals.

Most of my students don't have music equipment of their own, so they rely on the school to lend them instruments and other equipment to use at school and at home. They practice diligently before and after regular school hours. While the equipment gets plenty of use, students care for it properly so it can be passed on to new classes of students. As our music program continues to grow to include grades pre-K through 12, the equipment from this project will be used by elementary, middle and high school students at my school for years to come.

Thank you for helping my school achieve its goal of providing every student with an excellent music education.”

  • Books for Our Library: A Student-Powered Project

    Funded Apr 7, 2015

Thank you for improving my school's seventh grade library. You have inspired this school year's seventh graders as well as many future classes of seventh graders. You have helped my students realize the value of creating projects to serve their school community and further their own learning.

My students immensely enjoyed reading the books we received through this project. These are books that they chose, about topics that interest them. They say that they love reading these books they challenge them, entertain them, and give them new ideas. Many of these books as well as other books in our seventh grade library are at a high school level, including Under the Dome, Of Mice and Men, and Anna Karenina. My students have read these books and engaged in discussions, written essays or passed quizzes about them. This school year the 90 seventh graders at my school read over 1,400 books independently. Thanks to their hard work and support from people like you, most of these students currently read above a seventh grade level and love reading more than ever.

And these are only short-term results. The long-term impact of your support, both on this school year's seventh graders and future seventh graders, is incalculable.”

  • LCD Projector for Interactive Math Lessons

    Funded Jun 27, 2009

Thank you very much for generously helping my class get an LCD projector. We use the projector daily for math, social studies, reading and writing lessons. We enjoy using the projector to view pictures and maps in social studies, to watch educational videos, to deliver or watch PowerPoint presentations, and most of all to play math jeopardy. My lessons are more engaging and interactive because of the projector, and I'm able to share a richer variety of content with my students in all subject areas.

This would not have been possible without your generosity. Thank you for helping my students learn!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnson
