  • The Chromebook Connection: Updating Our Classroom Technology

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I cannot begin to express the gratitude and appreciation I have for your generous contribution to my classroom project on DonorsChoose.org. Your donation has shown me, my students, and other members of our school community that you value education and the betterment of future generations.

Through your generosity, I was able to purchase more technology for student use in my English classroom. This technology allows students to use tools in a way with which they are not socially familiar. Many students are accessing information on a daily basis through their smartphones, laptops, and iPads, but very rarely do they ever put that collected information to good use. As a globally-aware educator, I know that it is my responsibility to guide my students through learning how to use these tools in a responsible way that can positively affect their own lives as well as the lives of others in their community and the world.

Again, I thank you, and my students thank you for your generous contribution to our classroom computer lab. Your donation has opened doors to enlightenment for the future leaders of our world.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brigola-Kelly

  • Chromebooks: Adding to Our Classroom Technology

    Funded Oct 20, 2015

I would like to personally thank you for your generous donation to our classroom project to add to our existing classroom technology. By helping us add these resources to our room, you have opened the door to opportunities for students that possibly to not have this luxury at home. Student use these tools to not only create and demonstrate their knowledge but to gain new knowledge as well.

It is important to give high school students the knowledge of and practice with technological tools in order to prepare them for the modern society in which they will be living and working upon graduation. You have helped us do exactly that. The student to which you have donated will greatly benefit from the experience you have provided for them.

I cannot thank you enough for the opportunity you have provided for my students. Their high achievement and development of productive and useful skills are a direct result of your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brigola-Kelly

  • Building Our Classroom Supply Stock

    Funded Sep 8, 2015

I cannot begin to thank you all enough for the generosity you have shown to me and my students. With your donations to my classroom projects, you have supplied my students with the tools they need to demonstrate their talent and creativity that, had it not been for your contributions, they would not otherwise have the opportunity to display. By providing my students with these supplies, you have helped to nurture their engagement because sometimes pencil-and-paper tests get tedious and tiresome for children. They are now able to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject matter in ways other than simply writing essays and completing multiple choice tests. You have given them the gift of art and imagination, and when those things are combined with learning, the knowledge is deeper and long-lasting. Thank you again for helping me build my students into life-long lovers of learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brigola-Kelly

  • Laptops for Developing Life Skills

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

Thank you so much for your kind donation to my project. Your funding has purchased three brand-new laptops for my Business English classroom. The students were very excited to receive them and are also grateful to have access to such important tools. Many of the students I teach in this course do not have access to Internet or computers at home, so having these laptops in my classroom is very useful and even more beneficial for those students with fewer resources.

My students use these laptops in many ways. In small groups they work together to research, create, and publish projects related to the topics being covered in current chapters. Individually students complete assignments like business-related communications and documents. They are also using these computers to develop keyboarding and technology skills and well as building experience in online etiquette.

Any time technology is added to a lesson, students' interests are increased. Today's students are growing up in a technological age, and attempting to educate them without the tools necessary to be successful is almost a fruitless venture. Very rarely can a person run across a job or career that does not involve some type of interaction with a computer or other technical device. As the Business English teacher at my school, I believe it is my responsibility to better prepare them for this interaction so that they can be successful and productive in society. Your contributions have made it possible for me to do this better.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brigola-Kelly

I teach two different kinds of students: those on a path to post-secondary learning through college or technical school and those on a path to a career following high school. Our school population is small in size and is in a rural community. Students' exposure to varieties of cultures and customs is limited to their small circles of family and friends in the area. They possess the desire to learn of and associate with others but often lack the means to travel past the closest city fifteen minutes away. In order for my students to broaden their knowledge and open their minds to the world that is out there waiting for them, it would be necessary and easier to bring that world to them. Slight variations in culture such as dress and dialect would not seem so alien to them if they were to experience the lives of "outsiders" more often. The small world in which they exist could easily grow larger and less cut-off through tools such as computers with Internet access.
