Hands-On Math for Upper Elementary Students With Neurodivergence
Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you for your donation! It really makes a difference for my students.
Thanks to you, my students will have concrete, hands-on tools to help them conceptualize otherwise abstract mathematical constructs. I am so grateful for people like you who value our next generation and see students with disabilities as esteemed learners and members of our global society.”

Mrs. Hewitt
This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and one other donor. Our Sky and Beyond!
Funded May 11, 2023I am so humbled by the generosity each of you have shown to my students! Through your donations, my students will have multiple opportunities to read about, explore, and learn scientific concepts that are a little out of physical reach (a lunar field trip would be so cool though)! These kits make these science units seem a little more tangible, and much more memorable. Thank you again for your support!”

Funded Mar 11, 2016I would like to take the time again to thank you for your generous donation to our Donors Choose project! We were able to get the 3 additional laptops and six carrying cases funded in a single day! The materials arrived very quickly, which was a great surprise!
In the short time that we've had these laptops (and the first three from the previous DC project), I have already seen so much growth and excitement in my students! Before receiving these laptops, my students had a very limited amount of time they could spend on a computer. Most of the projects and assignments I created for my students were written or hands-on... Which is great! ... Except that this is the 21st century and our students need to learn about all the ways they can publish and share knowledge through technology.
Now, I am able to create assignments and projects that have a large technology component. They are learning to create videos, animated slideshows, infographics, and more to share knowledge; publish works of art, writing, and music; and collaborate on projects together. We have only tested the waters in the last few weeks - I can only imagine what next year will hold, as we will be able to hit the technological ground running!
Thank you again for your generosity and investment into our children's education! We definitely could not do it without people like you!”

Funded Feb 18, 2016I would like to take the time again to thank you for your generous donation to our Donors Choose project! We were able to get the 3 laptops and "charging station" funded very quickly, and the materials arrived a lot sooner than we expected, which was a great surprise!
In the short time that we've had these laptops (and three more, thanks to a second DC project!), I have already seen so much growth and excitement in my students! Lovely Listening Center
Funded Aug 23, 2013I am overwhelmed by your generosity! I wish you all could have been in the classroom as the materials for our listening center rolled in, piece by piece. I didn't tell them what the items were or what they were for; I simply stacked them up, building their suspense over the weeks that it took everything to be delivered. The kids begged and pleaded to be let in on the secret; they plotted and predicted of what the final summation would be... they didn't have a clue, ha! When I finally revealed that all these pieces would serve as our listening center for our Daily Five reading time, they were SO excited! It's the only element of the Daily Five that we have not been able to implement - until now. They were impressed that they would be able to listen to real authors read their own stories... and when I told them that they would also hear MY voice reading to them, they flipped their lids (which, on a related note... if you'd like to record a story for them to listen to, please let me know!).
The listening center is helping all my readers. There are simple books, like One Fish Two Fish, as well as chapter books (Magic Tree House is a current popular choice) available for my students to read along with. With the book that I record myself, I am able to draw their attention to pictures, have them sound out tricky words, and ask questions for them to answer as "we" read together. I am seeing my students grow as readers, and the listening center plays a HUGE roll in that!
The students have made various comments, indicating their excitement and enthusiasm when using our listening center... My favorite, though, is, "I'm like a grown up, using the Wimpy-Three Player." Thank you again for contributing to 25 students' education and lives! You are a blessing!!”

Seuss-inspired Library
Funded Jan 1, 2013This is just a small token of my gratitude for your donation to our classroom. The books and audio books you donated are being heavily used every day. The students were SO excited when they saw all the Dr. Seuss books they got, they asked if they could have a "Dr. Seuss only" Daily 5 session. (Daily 5 is a reading structure in which the kids get to choose literacy activities, including reading to self and reading with a friend.) For read to self and read with a friend that day, the only books the students read were their new Dr. Seuss books. Even now, you can't find a Dr. Seuss book on my shelves - they are all in the students' reading bags!
Dr. Seuss is such a great author because he has written books on every reading level, so there is a book that fits every student in my classroom. The illustrations are simple yet intricate, and his use of word play makes the kids giggle CONSTANTLY. They learn about sounds, new vocabulary, humor in books, and character/morals from reading the books you so graciously donated. Thank you again!!”

Big Carpet for Whole Group Meetings
Funded Aug 10, 2012Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom! It was so generous of you to donate funds so that we can have a place to gather as a class and listen to stories, share writing, and talk about authors and their books.
Students also use the carpet area as they write in their journals and practice spelling words. They use magnetic letters, small dry erase boards, and flash cards. The carpet is one of their favorite spots in the classroom!
Without the carpet, we'd have no meeting place, no comfy spot. We are so blessed and fortunate to have sponsors as generous as you. Thanks again!”

Mrs. Hewitt
