    Funded Jan 6, 2024

I'm overwhelmed with your generosity! My students have developed a new love of reading this past year and I firmly believe the biggest reason is because I made it a priority to read to my students each day. Out of all the books I read, I can honestly say the books you donated to our classroom library were their absolute FAVORITES!

After I would read a book, I would put it on display for a few weeks and then students were encouraged to read it independently when they were finished with their assignments. The books donated from this project were seriously the most popular of the ones I put on display, often resulting in a few disagreements of who got to read it first.

In fact, I reread many of these books because they were instrumental in teaching particular reading strategies, such as chronological order, theme, and author's perspective. Your kindness means the world of difference to my students and me. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • Books, Books, and More Books!

    Funded May 23, 2023

I'm in awe of your generosity. Thank you again for making such a positive difference in the lives of my students. When the books arrived, my students and I were ecstatic. I've used each one to teach and/or review a particular reading lesson, such as author's purpose or compare/contrast. After I read the book, the students took turns rereading the books and making deeper connections. The books are nonstop gifts of learning.

Reading is always a top priority in my classroom. When students arrive every morning, they unpack and start reading. When students are finished with an assignment, they read. I also read to the students a minimum of two times a day, but usually average three to four times a day. Students read independently, as well as with buddies. The books you've help add to my classroom library are absolutely fantastic! Watching my students put their hands on those books is pure magic and I'm elated you were part of making that happen for them.

Once again, we are so very appreciative.”

I'm humbled by your generosity. Thank you again for making such a positive difference in the lives of my students. When the books arrived, my students and I were ecstatic. I've used each one to teach and/or review a particular reading lesson, such as text structure or main idea. After reading the book, the students take turns rereading the books and making deeper connections.

  • Epic Books for Epic Kids

    Funded Nov 23, 2021

Words can't express how grateful my students and I are for your generosity. Thanks to you, our class library is now overflowing with content-rich picture books that are absolutely perfect to reinforce skills I'm currently teaching. For example, when learning about legends, we read the two books.... The Legend of Michigan and The Legend of Mackinac Island. I was also able to use those books to teach about compare/contrast. Other books, such as Pinduli and When I Was Eight, were perfect examples when I had to introduce and teach them about theme.

My students have become even more obsessed with reading thanks to these new additions. The first thing my students do each morning when they arrive is pick up a book, find a cozy place, and start reading. If a student finishes an assignment early, they read. In fact, their favorite time of the day is when I read to them. My goal this year is to read 305 books to them because I read 304 books to my students last year. So far, we've read 225 books and still have nine more weeks to go!

Honestly, the books from this project are popular with all of my students. But, I've noticed my struggling readers love rereading them the most after I've read and discussed them with the whole group.”

  • Picture Books That Celebrate Strong Women

    Funded May 4, 2021

There are not enough words to describe the happiness and joy you have brought my students and I during our last month of school. We have thoroughly loved each and every book that was so generously donated to our class.

While reading these new books to the students, we have reviewed many different reading skills that were taught this past year. One of our favorite activities was comparing and contrasting the many accomplishments of these extraordinary women. The students gained so much insight to the struggles that many of these women had to endure on their road to success.

If you ask any of my students to describe their favorite part of the day, each of them will shout with enthusiasm...... "We love it when Mrs. Lee reads to us!" I sit in my rocking chair at the front of the room and the students join me on the carpet (masked up) to hear me read these fabulous books. While I read, I often ask questions and they "turn and talk" to the person next to them when answering the questions. It's always a highlight of my day to overhear their creative answers. After I have read one of the new books, I put it on display for the students to reread. Needless to say, they are the new class favorites and all of them try to be the first one to put their hands on it to reread it.

I also wanted to let all of you know that many of my students have made connections with the women in these books. They have commented on similar experiences or personal goals they have. Each of them have truly be inspired by these books.

Once again, I am so very appreciative. You have, without a doubt, made the world a better place with your generosity. My students and future students thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Words cannot express how deeply appreciative my students and I are for your generosity. My students were thrilled beyond measure when I told them we received an iPad. The excitement that spread through my room was spectacular! All of them cheered! All of them clapped! Best of all, they couldn't wipe the smiles off their faces. It is with true joy in our hearts that we accept your thoughtful gift.

Using an iPad in our classroom has been so much fun! I spend a lot of time researching different educational apps for the students to use. They love exploring these new apps and learning new things. I've also created QR Code Treasure Hunts, in which the students have to answer questions and then scan the code to find a "secret word." If they scan the correct answer, then the "secret words" spell out a message. They absolutely love it!

This new iPad has boosted my students' learning in more ways than one. Not only are they becoming extremely tech-savvy, they are also learning new skills under the disguise of "playing a game." It enhances my teaching because I am now able to show them new concepts and lessons by projecting my iPad onto my SmartBoard.

The students look forward to using the iPad each and everyday. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee
