Help Us Become Makers!
Funded Dec 18, 2015Dear Donors,
Thank you again for giving us the Makedo tools for our Makerspace! This year, students are participating in a STEM Club that meets on Fridays during their regular resource time. My fourth and fifth graders are creating a rhombicosidodecahedron - a giant windball made from recycled cardboard, using the Makedo tools! We are still in the process of making it in our photos. I have also included an image of what our final product will look like! Students had a blast using the saw tool to cut through the cardboard. Next, we will use the "scru"s to put together the squares we are cutting out, then assemble it together to make one giant windball! Thanks to you, students are learning how to reuse items, such as these cardboard boxes, to make new things! Also, since the Makedo tools are reusable, after we disassemble our windball, we'll use the tools to make pinball machines out of recycled material! Neat projects, huh? Thanks again for all you do to support classrooms!”

Listen and Learn: Centers in the Library
Funded Aug 1, 2014Thank you so much for your generosity in donating money so that we can start to build our collection of recorded books in our library! Your thoughtfulness will impact more than 750 students in our school as teachers now have a fantastic source of books on tape and CD to use as part of the Daily 5 Reading and Math centers that our teachers engage in everyday. Our collection continues to grow, with your help, so that we can offer high and low level readers, as well as bilingual resources to our ELL students. The students are really enjoying listening and following along in the books. It also helps build their own fluency and expression as they are reading - not to mention motivating some of our more reluctant readers!”

Habla English? You Could With Bilingual Books!
Funded Nov 28, 2013We are so thankful for your donations of bilingual books for our classroom. In the time that I posted the project, our ESL population has grown! It is so helpful to have these books for not only the students' use, but for these families. They are then able to read with their child as well as practicing English words with them without the struggle of trying to understand WHAT they are reading! The printable books are wonderful because these can be copied and sent home for students to keep at home, while the other books we have used in reading groups. Thank you once again for donating to this worthy project! You have made many of our growing Hispanic population of students and families very happy and very grateful!”

This classroom project was brought to life by an anonymous donor and 2 other donors. We are so ATTRACTed to Learning!
Funded Dec 29, 2012Thank you so much for donating to our classroom project! The students LOVE the magnets! It's so nice to be able to teach with magnets that have the poles labeled. Before, we labeled our circle magnets with stickers to distinguish the poles (we had one old bar magnet), but it never seemed quite accurate! Now, students have not only bar magnets, but horseshoe magnets and iron filings to display magnetism!
We really appreciate you thinking of us and helping us out with this important science concept!”

Shuffle Our Way Into Our iFuture
Funded Jul 24, 2012Wow! Thank you once again for funding our project for an iPod touch and a shuffle in our classroom! We have had lots of fun listening to the shuffle as it helps us focus on our assignments, such as writing, a little better (not to mention helping the room "calm down" so that we can listen to the music...it also helps us focus because we want to hear the music!). The touch is such an awesome tool! We only have one, but it's been used in reading and math groups (under the teacher's observation) and it's helping us have fun with harder concepts that normally would be a pencil/paper assignment.
Thank you once again! You rock! :)”

Dot, Dot, Not a Lot!
Funded May 9, 2012We were so excited to receive our boxes of supplies this year!!! The classroom set of scissors has come in VERY handy, as well as the other items we requested! Instead of students having to bring their pair to centers or groups, it's been so nice to have scissors there for them to use (it's the number one time they misplace their pair!). Also, as you can tell by the photos, students are highly engaged by the magic boards! While it is still early in the year, we are already practicing counting our money using the magic board pages. The dominoes have become a part of our math centers as students use the dots to help add and subtract numbers and "park" the dominoes in a parking spot in one of our games!
Thank you once again for your amazing generosity in helping our class receive much needed center and essential supplies!”

Where In the World Are We?
Funded Dec 19, 2011Wow! Thank you again so much for your generosity towards our classroom! We explored the atlases today and talked about the many ways we can use them! We just completed a unit on Community Changes over the years, and students immediately thought about atlases as being a way to look at the population of countries. They were amazed at the many uses, other than maps, that we can use them for! The photographs of different countries also help, they said, so we can see what it's like where other kids live. Students were even amazed there was a section about our universe in there! These atlases will go a long way towards educating our class, and not just in maps! Thanks once again for all your help!”

Plant a Learning Seed and Help Us Grow!
Funded Dec 5, 2011Thank you once again for your generous donation for our classroom. Students were floored today when I announced that once again, we had items donated towards our classroom! While we don't study life cycles until March, it was fun to explore the puppets (the frog changes to a tadpole, the caterpillar to a butterfly), as well as knowing we will have LIVE butterflies in our classroom this Spring! Kids were delighted when I told them about the "tickle plant" we will be growing. The plant parts floor puzzle is on its way, and students are VERY excited for that to arrive!
Thank you once again for helping our students have more hands-on items to study this great unit! You definitely made my kids VERY happy and excited about learning, not to mention about "paying it forward" to someone else!”

Getting Our Hands a Little Dirty!
Funded Nov 11, 2011We were so excited to receive our package on Thursday containing our science materials from this project! What great timing since we are into our study of magnets! While the rest of the materials will be taught in the spring (life cycles), we immediately explored our magnetic field window (which is why all our photographs focus on that!). What a GREAT way to explore the power of magnets! I demonstrated to the students using our document camera, but loved the fact that I could hand it to them and have each group explore magnetic fields! It was a safe, engaging way for my students to study each type of magnet we have in our classroom (donut, magnet wand, lodestone) and determine which magnet had the strongest "pull".
Thanks again for your generosity in donating such fun and educational items for our classroom to use. I can't wait until we study life cycles and erosion/fossils and use the other items that came with this project!”

Ms. Youel
Can You Hear Us Now?
Funded Aug 24, 2011We are so grateful for your generosity in granting us our headsets! Our students use these not only for headphones for our computers and laptop labs, but also as microphones to help record projects, and to help us build our fluency skills! With your help, we have made them a "multi-subject" tool that students love to use! One student even suggested that the headsets were good for blocking out sound, so he could concentrate on his book and not on the classroom noise around him. Another student suggested that we could even use them as "props" for a Reader's Theater play to look more "professional."
As you can read, we are definitely getting our use out of these materials. Thank you once again for your generosity and donating to our project!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Youel
