  • Technical Theater Lighting Part 1

    Funded Jun 20, 2017

Thank you so much for the light boards and DMX cables that you donated to my technical theater classes. Before we had light boards, it was not possible for students to experiment with theatrical lighting.

Once the boards arrived, students eagerly unpacked the boards and learned to use them to convey the moods expressed in their plays. They created a variety of looks and experimented with how lighting changes the way their scenery looks on stage. In the photos attached, you can see before and after pictures of the designs they created and a few of the lighting effects they used in their projects.

Thank you again for your donation.”

  • Color Me Happy! Art Supplies For Technical Theater

    Funded Mar 11, 2016

Thank you so much for the gift of color pencils for my students. The students appreciated having a large variety of color pencils to work with and being able to find them easily.

Black color pencils often run out very quickly so having the additional black color pencils on hand made it easier for students to get their work done quickly without having to wait for supplies.

The students used your color pencils to make designs for the plays that they had selected. They took their time researching appropriate costuming, make up, set design, and props and then used your color pencils to bring their designs to life.

Thank you so much for what you've given them. I look forward to using these color pencils with my classes next year as well.”

  • Color Me Happy! Art Supplies for Technical Theater

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

Thank you so much for your donation of color pencil cases. We combined them with another DonorsChoose gift of color pencils we received. The cases have allowed our students to keep the fine set of color pencils they have been provided organized.

This year, students worked at tables sharing one set of 72 color pencils to create designs for our technical theater class. Before your donation of pencil cases, the students shared the box the color pencils came in. It was difficult for them to find what they needed, and supplies were often lost and messy. After your donation, it became much easier for the students share supplies and find what they needed easily.

Your gift made it easier for me to get the students through our lessons smoothly, and I appreciate your generosity!”

  • Tech Theater Class Needs More Books

    Funded Apr 17, 2015

Thank you everyone for the books for my technical theater class! The visual examples in the books have really helped the kids create their designs. This fall, we have been designing for the "Lion King Jr." which will open in mid-November. We used the Disney's "The Show Must Go On" book to help us come up with pattern ideas for our costumes and to come up with mask ideas for our wildebeests.

In addition, the students have experimented with painting techniques from the books and have started to study more in depth about sound. We will continue to use the materials as we get closer to our show date.

Thank you again for you donation.”

  • Dr. Seuss Costumes for "Seussical the Musical"

    Funded Oct 4, 2014

Thank you so much for the Seussical costumes, they truly helped bring our show to life! The students were so excited to get each package. The students who were in charge of hair and makeup were inspired by the costumes and produced amazing results!

Having the additional costumes allowed us to cast more students in the play and provided them with opportunities to be featured. We also were able to put more students on costume crew as a result of your donation.

Your donation definitely made a difference to our students and audience.”

  • Color Me Happy! Speech - Theatre Class Needs Art Supplies!

    Funded Aug 19, 2013

Thank you so much for your wonderful donation of scissors, glue, and markers to our theater and speech classroom! You have provided our students with the supplies they needed to create backdrops that reflect the mood, style, time and location of the plays they are performing in.

Before we received these donations, we only had a hand full of scissors left and we were completely out of black markers. It was nearly impossible to work. Now that we have such a large collection of markers, scissors and glue, our students don't have to wait long periods of time to use supplies.

Thank you again for the gift you have given us!”

  • Lions, Tigers & Bears Oh My! Wizard of Oz Special Effects 2

    Funded Sep 12, 2012

Thank you all for your donations! I am so lucky to have been able to share your wonderful gifts with our students. We had over 70 students participate in our fall play, "The Wizard of Oz" and I know for a fact that they truly enjoyed the new technology. They especially loved the LED flame which we used in two different scenes.

We look forward to using the fog machine in our upcoming production, "You Can't Take It With You" during the fireworks scene and hope to use the equipment for many years to come.

Thank you again for providing us with more opportunities to expose the students to technical theatre.”

Our middle school drama/speech department serves kids grades 6 - 8. Our students are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment. We have an after-school drama club program where students can participate in 2 full-length plays, improv, speech team and Thespian society. Students of all ability levels and learning types play a role in the creative process. This past year, over 90 students participated in our program. We try to find a place in our theatre for any child interested in the performing arts. Our students act, sing and dance on the stage. They learn technical skills backstage as well. Students are responsible for just about every aspect of the creative process; sound, set, props, costumes, makeup, and lights are all designed and executed by the theater students.
