I teach 5 year-old kindergarten in rural South Carolina. We are a Title One school with 93% of kindergarten students receiving free/reduced lunch. Our school is featured on SC ETV's "Corridor of Shame." All of the funds I am allocated are used for consumable supplies.

Kindergarten students learn best with activities they can touch, see, manipulate and work with. Our district does not offer four year old kindergarten for all children. Five year old kindergarten is the the first formal school experience for many of my students. Measurement is a foreign concept to most of my students. Children will learn about weight, volume, and the changing properties of wet and dry sand. They need repeated and various hands-on experiences to internalize these concepts. My students will also use the sand table with moon sand. This will be the perfect outdoor art center. This will provide extra hours of expressing their creativity and individuality.

The sand table, molds and activity kit I am requesting will benefit each student in my classroom. Kindergarten students learn best when they are engaged in meaningful activities.

Your support of this project will help guide 22 kindergarten students this year toward building a solid foundation in measurement. The impact over the years to come will be tremendous! Thank you for investing in the future of my students.
