This is Isis the Scientist's giving page where she offers a number of worthwhile projects to contribute to. Here, Dr. Isis's readers school the poser readers of other blogs in how to give.
This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The games and materials that you have donated have helped my students everyday. I have used the games and materials with the children and they have had so much fun and are continually engaged while using the materials.
Our school system is currently facing a huge budget shortfall, so without your help, my students would never have had these vital resources. I am so thankful that there are people in this world that value education and know how hard it is to get funding.
Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without”
With gratitude,
Ms. Corrigan
This classroom project was brought to life by Dora's Beyond the Backpack and 8 other donors.
I want to say thank you so much for your donations to our cause. My school is severely under-resourced and I have been begging my administration for more science equipment, and even more immediately, materials to perform labs. I am thankful to you, the donors, for many different biology labs over this past semester, and my students also appreciate the labs that you have provided. Every time we perform a lab in the class, my students light up. The days we do labs are easily the most engaging days in my classroom, and engaging lessons always lead to increased student achievement. I know that you cannot see the immediate results of your contributions, but every dollar you give is valuable for my students. I deeply appreciate your donation”
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity to this project. Writing, especially for English Language Learners, can be intimidating and frustrating. I've desired to acquire further writing resources to make writing become more engaging and relevant to my students. Your donations to fund these writing resources have provided me an avenue to bring writing to life for my students.
The writing trait crates you provided have supplied excellent, motivating ideas for teaching writing using all six traits of good writing (ideas, organization, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, and conventions). I've implemented many of the ideas and literature provided into my daily lessons and writing units. It has been so rewarding to see the children's eyes light up with excitement as they have found meaningful connections to writing. I have implemented other mediums (such as play-dough, costumes, and outside literature, which can be seen in the pictures) to integrate other learning styles with writing for students who need a different approach and benefit from hands on experiences. My students have produced some of the best writing I've seen from them. Not only is the writing quality better, but the students attitude and thoughts towards writing is more positive.
Words cannot thank you enough for your generosity that provided these resources. Your donations are making a lasting impact in the lives of these children. Thank you for your support!”
I can't express how much my students and I are grateful for the motion detectors and photogates. Your support has empowered my students to become scientists.
Concepts like uniform acceleration and constant velocity are finally clear! My students designed and executed an experiment that shows all objects fall towards the earth at the same uniform acceleration. We investigated the motion of carts moving down ramps as well. Without your generous donation of the motion detectors and photogates, none of this would be possible.
Thank you again. Without kind people like you, willing to take action, many classrooms would have to make do without.”
With gratitude,
Ms. H.
This classroom project was brought to life by Marriott and 18 other donors.
The resources that you have generously helped to purchase have already prove to be useful in our classroom. Giving us greater access and ability to use technology in our classroom helps to keep students in touch with the state of science and technology in real time.
Most importantly, these are resources that can be used and reused each year, providing countless opportunities for students' learning. Thank you for all you do and continue to do, to help ensure all students are able to learn.”
We have been enjoying the astronomy materials quite a bit over the last month. The Sunspotter Telescopes have transformed the solar system portion of science for my students. Each day, they ask if they can analyze solar processes and features by using the materials!
We set the Sunspotters up, open up our lab notebooks, and track solar features. My students exclaim each time they note a solar flare or sunspot. It is really powerful when they are able to track changes over a period of time. This truly brings dynamic solar processes to life for middle school students.
We are now moving into extending our learning to other stars. My students will have a firm foundation of knowledge of our own star and will soon hypothesize about other stars. Thank you so much!”
Words cannot express my gratitude for your generosity! It is a good feeling to know that there are warm and caring people in this world such as yourselves.
Because of your donation, my 7th grade students have a better chance of passing the science ISAT test, a test that assesses their knowledge of science. Furthermore, it is a good feeling for me knowing that I will be able to effectively instruct my students (6th -8th grade) in science and prepare them for high school science labs simultaneously - experiences and opportunities that many of them have never had.
As a teacher, I am required to provide many opportunities for students to develop science process skills and employ the scientific method. Your donation ensures that my students are well on their way to acquiring these skills. Once again, thank you so very much for what you have given my students!”
The children loved having the opportunity to feel the real rocks. It is a lot easier to learn rock features when you are holding an example. The students also loved using the testing kits to identify rocks found at home and at school.
They enjoyed playing the accompanying board games because it is a fun way to learn about minerals and rocks. Most of my students are very competitive and they learn very quickly when playing board games.
Thank you again for supporting our school and my students. These mineral sets and games will be used for many years to come. Your donations will be helping future students.”
The program you supported, Idea Lab, is a partner of the math and sciences here, but is an elective for all students. As electives get their funding last, it has been a challenge to build a fully interactive Idea Lab for students here. Your donation helped us plant the seed of our solar project. The students loved working with the boats – many of them had never worked with solar panels before.
We are getting ready to launch a solar-school initiative. The materials you've helped us bring to our classroom will hopefully grow in the years ahead into a school run completely by alternative energy.
In this class, some of our most challenged students learn concepts core to math and science without knowing it. Along the way, they find out that they are good at inventing! The learning and the excitement is real, thanks to your support!
Thank you so much for helping to make this project a reality for the second year in a row! Since we did the dissection and practical last year, word has gotten around, and my students have been asking about the frogs since September. They are so excited to finally be starting our anatomy unit, so that they can "cut the frogs". I showed them the shipment, and several students already picked out their frogs to dissect.
As a teacher, it is amazing to see my students so excited about learning, and know that, despite the lack of resources at my school, I am still able to provide them with a quality lab experience. Without donors like you, this project would not exist at my school, especially not two years in a row. This project will really give my students a thorough, hands-on learning experience that will stay with them for a long time. Students last year are already asking if they can come back and do the lab again, even though they are in a different class now.
Words cannot really express how grateful I am to you for helping me make this project a reality. You've given my students an amazing learning experience to look forward to and have thus motivated them to be very proactive about learning the anatomy material in the mean time.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Czaicki
