  • We Are Crazy for "One Crazy Summer"!

    Funded Mar 6, 2012

This is just a small token of my appreciation for your support of my project. The books your donations allowed us to acquire for our classroom are so beautiful and will enable us to keep our reading moving forward.

It is so important for my students have access to new titles of hardcover books. They need to be in current conversations about titles that reflect their own lives and contexts. They need to experience the thrill of cracking open a new book and knowing that they are the first ones to read the copy in their hands. They need to fall asleep with the book in their hands at night, and know that they can pick the book back up in the morning and keep reading it!

Your donation has provided access to reading for my students, and for that I am most grateful. We will take very good care of our new books, and remember your kindness when we are reading them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. N.

  • Drawing is Representational Thought

    Funded Dec 25, 2011

We were delighted to receive the beautiful sketchbooks and drawing pencils that you funded for our classroom project. We are so appreciative of your support and want you to know how much it means to us. Our school community is experiencing hard times as a result of the current economy. It has been hard enough to get "basic" supplies, so you can imagine how much harder it is for us to procure art supplies.

Our school art teacher has designed a special program for us, so that we can learn to use our sketchbooks as tools for thinking. We couldn't have this learning opportunity without the supplies, and your donation made this wonderful opportunity possible. We want you to know that we will work hard to make our sketchbooks special, and we will think of you when we are drawing.

Thank you so much for supporting us, and for believing in us.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. N.

  • Rockin' Reading Spots

    Funded Dec 28, 2010

Our fifth grade community has been touched by your gift and we are incredibly grateful. The bean bag chairs are the perfect addition to our learning space. On the day they arrived the students faces were more excited than I have ever seen them. They couldn't wait to curl up and read. We have a carefully made schedule hanging in our class that specifies whose turn it is to use the chairs, and the students insist on a careful code of conduct when using one of our precious seats! They've assumed quite a sense of ownership already.

The chairs are wonderful during reading time. Students sit, absorbed in texts, cozy and comfortable. They complain when reading time is over! We have even begun to use the bean bag chairs for special writing times and small group math work. They have made our learning time more productive, more relaxing, and more special.

Thank you so much for sharing this gift with my students. Your belief in and commitment to public schools is an inspiration. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. OHalloran

  • We Need to Read to Vote for Our Children's Choice Book!

    Funded Nov 4, 2010

Words cannot fully express my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The books that you donated have brought joy to my students, and they are eagerly signing up to read as many as they can so they can vote for their favorite. With so many wonderful titles to choose from, their heads are spinning!

Our school is operating on a tight budget, so without your help, my students would not have been able to enjoy these books and participate in our state's Children's Book Award contest.

It's donors like you who make a positive difference for teachers and children across the United States. Thank you so much! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. N.

  • Not Just Gym 2010

    Funded Mar 5, 2010

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation to my students trough Donors Choose! The materials I was able to purchase with your donation, the jump ropes and the CDs, were the few components of the "Not Just Gym!" kit that the children were looking forward to receive the most. The students learned different dances and listened to many songs during PE class throughout the year. To have a CD of their own with all their favorite songs to use at home whenever they want is one of the best gifts that they could have receive! Another one of their favorite physical activities is jumping rope. Many times after a jump rope lesson my students would ask me: "Ms. B, can I borrow a jump rope to practice the new trick at home?" Your donation has made it possible for 240 students to have a jump rope of their own which they can use at home and practice the skills learned at school.

Since many of our families are at or below the poverty level, jump ropes and CDs with dancing songs could sometimes be the only "toys" which encourage physical activity in the home! Therefore, your donation has made it possible for me to show my students and their families how invested I am in extending the Physical Education program from school to home and promoting the importance of exercise with the hope of instilling life-long healthy habits.

Although the program takes place mainly at home, I tried to capture some photographs of the students receiving the materials and using them while in school and I am hoping that they will give you an idea of the joy the Not Just Gym! program brought to them.

Thank you for helping me to make a positive impact on my student's health.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ella

  • Book Us Up!

    Funded Oct 30, 2009

Words cannot express my students' gratitude for the beautiful new books we received for our classroom library. Your thoughtful generosity has brought endless smiles to my students' faces, and their excitement over the new titles is palpable.

When I heard that my project had been fully funded, I felt so grateful for the support from your donations and from Donors Choose. Most of my students do not have books at home. Research shows that children need to read widely and read often to develop strong vocabularies and habits of mind that will help them succeed, both in school and in life. I don't think they can ever have too many books!

With budgets being cut left and right, it is challenging for teachers to get classroom materials over and above the bare minimum. Your donation feels like a luxury, and we are truly appreciative. If you have ever found yourself "lost in a book" then you will completely understand the blissful feelings of my students lately, as they lose themselves in their brand new books! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    With gratitude,

    Ms. N.

Your generous donation helped me make a positive impact on my student's health. I cannot thank you enough!”

  • Help! A lack of Classroom Scales is Weighing Us Down!

    Funded Mar 20, 2009

I can't tell you how thrilled I am that you have contributed funding for my classroom's science materials!  The high-quality balances and sets of gram weights purchased with your help will allow my students to improve their data collection skills and measure with ease.   Fifth graders will deepen their understanding of the concept of buoyancy by using the scales to accurately calculate the mass of different "floaters" and "sinkers."

Thank you for your support and commitment to science education.”

  • Wanted: A Small House For A Big Family

    Funded Dec 15, 2008

What a wonderful surprise to have our doll house funded! I recently added people to our block area and my students have been building "block" houses for our families to live in. While using their imaginations is wonderful, their imaginary play will soar with this addition to our classroom. Thank you for your generosity. This dollhouse will be enjoyed and treasured for many years”

  • Aspiring Writers Need Real Writer's Notebooks

    Funded Nov 8, 2008

You have no idea what impeccable timing you have!

My kids are all finishing their first Moleskine Notebooks right now. Long story short, my closet is devoid of new notebooks (unless you count the nine I have without lines, which aren't exactly 9 year-old friendly). Therefore, I'm extremely delighted you chose to fund this project. My kids REALLY need new notebooks to write in NOW since they've been writing sooooo much lately!

    Wishing you a great day!

    Best,

    Stace”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Shubitz
