Funded Nov 16, 2010First of all, thank you for contributing to a simple, but effective feel-good project. A certificate may seem like a paper to many, but for my kids it's a positive affirmation of their hard work and effort. The certificates have motivated my students to strive for their very best everyday. Truly, giving a certificate to a student for passing a math quiz brings more than just a smile; it brings a big boost to their self-esteem.
As a matter a fact, there is more to tell. A parent recently called me to tell me how much she appreciates the certificates her son had been taking home. She said her son proudly displays the certificates in his room. She also mentioned how his behavior at home has changed for the good, and how positive his attitude has changed towards his homework.
Another parent mentioned during a casual conversation how the certificates had helped her daughter focus on her studying. Not only did her daughter like receiving the certificates and getting recognized at school and home, she also became aware that all the small accomplishments she was being rewarded for were helping her out towards raising her math grade. While most adults understand that we take a step at a time to reach our goals, 6th graders are just becoming aware of how grades and goal setting actually work.
Not only do my students love their certificates, but it also has become very important to them to be able to show their accomplishments to the rest of their family. Parents feel good because their child received a certificate, and the feel-good feeling is passed back to the student. Thank you for providing the feel-good feeling to everybody, from the teacher, to the students, to the parents, and back to the ones who matter most, the students
Thank you for your kindness and thank you for caring about our future. I hope the certificates my students created for you carry the same type of feel-good feeling we are all feeling here in our classroom. Let our smiles shine! ”
With gratitude,
Mr. R.
