Help Make our MakerSpace a Reality
Funded Aug 23, 2014I cannot thank you enough for your very generous and truly life-changing donation to our project.
Our students are not only using our new 3D printer for innovative science fair projects, robotics design, and prototype development -- they have also formed a service-learning club, the Innovation Lab, to use this technology to help others.
From the moment we received the Makerbot Replicator2 3D printer, the students wanted to find a way to use the technology to make a difference. They chose to volunteer with e-NABLE, and are in the process of qualifying to 3D print prosthetic hands for children in need.
The students are not only learning design software and techniques, but have found a way to put their skills to use in a way that will change their lives and the lives of others.
I thank you, with all my heart, for making this extraordinary service-learning opportunity possible through your generous gift.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rogers
This classroom project was brought to life by Gates Foundation Back To School and 9 other donors. We are "Wonderstruck" by Reading!
Funded Dec 28, 2012Thank you for your generous donation to our school library and special education classroom. Our students are completely enthralled by the novel, "Wonderstruck," by Brian Selznick, purchased with your donation.
The students are exploring new concepts, learning new vocabulary, and making real world connections across the curriculum. For example, we are exploring topics in health (disabilities), life skills (safety), and physical science (lightning) related to scenes in the novel. The students are completely engaged in their studies because of the connections they are making to the novel across all subject areas.
Your generosity has enriched our learning experience, and opened new worlds to our students. Thank you so much for your kind support.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rogers
Hugo Cabret Helps Boost Reading Confidence!
Funded Dec 12, 2011Thank you so much for supporting our Donors Choose project, "Hugo Cabret Helps Boost Reading Confidence!." The books and CD purchased with your donation were a huge hit with our class of special education students, and a tremendous boost to their reading confidence.
Our students were able to read the 800 page (!) story, listen to the CD, and make real world connections to subjects across the curriculum as they explored the art and science of Hugo Cabret. As you may know, the film version of the book, "Hugo" was recently released on DVD. We were able to borrow a copy of the film for the students to extend their reading experience into a true multimedia experience, and compare the visual techniques used in the book with those in the film.
Budgets are very tight right now, and it is sometime difficult to supplement the curriculum with engaging enrichment experiences for our students. Without your generosity, our students would never have had this wonderful opportunity to connect with literature and visual media.
Thank you so much for supporting me, my students, and Donors Choose. Please know that you are part of an amazing network of caring individuals and companies who are making a difference in classrooms and libraries across the United States.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rogers
We're "Series-ous" About Reading!
Funded Mar 23, 2010I cannot fully express my gratitude for your generous donation to my school library. The series of books that you donated have generated so much excitement about the library and reading in our school. The students have been reading and talking about the new books every day. There is already a waiting list of students who want to borrow the books when they return to school in September!
Our already high need school was hit hard this year by the New Jersey's cuts in state education funding and a failed school budget. Without your donation, I would not have been able to purchase so many high interest books for my students. In fact, the students would have waited until next school year for any new books at all.
Your generous support of my school library and of DonorsChoose.org proposals like mine is so important as we continue to meet the needs of our students in a challenging economy. Thank you.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rogers
