My students are preschoolers on the autism spectrum who spend 5 hours a day in school. They are some of the hardest workers you will ever meet!
My students are learning to sit, attend and participate for individualized work sessions, as well as, small group activities.
Many of my students have occupational therapy challenges with posture and balance. Their ability to attend is impacted by their stamina and need for personal space.
My Project
My students will use these chairs during many activities throughout their day. Sitting around our kidney shaped table while manipulating materials on the table will be much easier in chairs that provide stability and appropriate back support. The chairs are lightweight and will easily move with my students to our circle rug for small group activities.
These chairs are specifically designed for my students. They are just the right height for toddlers to keep their feet on the floor. The armrests provide additional support and the chair is built to encourage good posture.
My students will be more successful when their young bodies are being appropriately supported.
The sensory challenges my students have can be specifically addressed through the chairs design. The ability to sit comfortably for an extended period of time will encourage participation and increase attention to tasks.
