My students need a field trip to Beacon Rock because we are amazing scholars in a very low income area, who cherish new experiences and excel when given tangible learning tools.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
At our elementary school we believe in ourselves and are taught we can achieve anything! We are amazing students who cherish new experiences and excel when given tangible learning tools.
We don't give up and will succeed!
We are an extremely diverse group in a high poverty area. We recently did a personal narrative about a place in nature and had the students brainstorm for ideas by listing places they've been. One of my students asked if the mall counted because she couldn't remember ever being in nature.
My Project
Many of our students have never been in nature. They will question, explore, and enjoy this field trip with all their senses. Some of the standards we will be meeting are:
ESS2.A: Earth Materials and Systems
Earth’s major systems are the geosphere (solid and molten rock, soil, and sediments), the hydrosphere (water and ice), the atmosphere (air), and the biosphere (living things, including humans). These systems interact in multiple ways to affect Earth’s surface materials and processes. The ocean supports a variety of ecosystems and organisms, shapes landforms, and influences climate. Winds and clouds in the atmosphere interact with the landforms to determine patterns of weather. (5-ESS2-1)
ESS2.C: The Roles of Water in Earth’s Surface Processes
Nearly all of Earth’s available water is in the ocean. Most fresh water is in glaciers or underground; only a tiny fraction is in streams, lakes, wetlands, and the atmosphere.
In previous years, the excitement on our scholar's faces has been contagious and the engagement level is unlike any we can create in the classroom.
We hope this will be another spark which continues opening our minds to new careers and possibilities.
