"Every child starts out as a natural-born scientist, and then we beat it out of them. A few trickle through the system with their wonder and enthusiasm for science intact." ~Carl Sagan
The best gift I can give my students is a strong curiosity for the world around them, but I need your help.
My fourth graders attend a Title I school with 80% needing Free & Reduced Lunch.
In addition, many of my 20 students are ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages). With all of the fourth grade gifted students clustered in my classroom, I have the unique ability to take the best and the brightest my school has to offer and stretch their abilities beyond what they can even imagine for themselves! These are students that have overcome language barriers, economic hardship, and a profound lack of resources, but still continue to excel.
My Project
To enrich my classroom environment, it is my goal to obtain a class set of owl pellets and the identification mats. My school cannot afford to purchase science materials beyond what our textbook publisher offers, so I am trying to put together these experiences by myself. This order contains 20 sanitary owl pellets, with varying prey like moles, small birds, or mice. It also includes the dissection mats to indicate what type of prey their pellet contains. The owl pellets that I am requesting will provide a unique and engaging experience in life cycles for my budding scientists. It will also inspire my students to look for possibilities beyond their own front yard!
Would you expect a doctor to diagnose your headaches without a CAT-Scan machine?
Would you want to send an astronaut into space without practice in a simulator? What if our soldiers fought overseas without advanced training? Success requires the practice and preparation afforded to all the aforementioned careers. This is your opportunity to provide a small investment with the potential for an immeasurable return! Thank you again for your time and consideration.
