My Students

My students are special. They are inquisitive and energetic learners. They love challenges and are always willing to try new things. They come from a wide range of differentiated backgrounds. There is an ELL (English Language Learners) population as well as students who are receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Some of my students come from well-traveled and enlightened family situations but many others have very few opportunities. Using creativity along with books that will keep them engaged will encourage reading as the means to inspire students at all levels.

My Project

I would like my second-grade students to have the opportunity to not only improve their writing skills but to be able to write about their own lives in the form of a personal narrative.

Every life is a biography.

As part of the second-grade curriculum, students learn about people all over the world, past and present, that have led exciting and challenging lives. I emphasize that they also have what it takes to work hard and be successful. They also learn to focus on others, not just themselves, and to show empathy to those who are in need.
