What makes you feel comfortable? Is it something familiar, something cozy, or something colorful? Carpet squares will add the warmth and comfort that is missing from our room! It will give my students a meeting place where we can all come together, and it will also allow them to work anywhere in the room with a small group!
On average I have about 25 students in my 3rd grade homeroom in the same school I attended when I was younger!
Our school is a small elementary school in an independent school district. It is located in a rural area, but more importantly it is home for me. It is MY school. It is where I grew and learned. In fact, I am now working with many of the men and women who taught me at some point in my "educational career"! My students are eager to learn and generally happy to be at school. I want them to not only feel safe in my classroom, but feel at home too!
My Project
The carpet squares I'm requesting will give us many opportunities to meet in front of the screen for a video or power point presentation, then move to the dry erase board for a mini-lesson, then sit anywhere in the room with a partner or small group! The carpet squares will give our classroom a homey, comfortable feeling, and give us the versatility of being able to move from place to place easily.
For our calendar time in the morning we can all sit together, away from our desks and distractions, and focus on the concepts we're practicing! When a student author is sharing his writing, we can all sit together and listen attentively! Read-aloud's from one of our favorite stories will bring us all together to laugh and cheer on the beloved characters from our own carpet squares!
These numbered carpet squares, while may not be considered an essential item, will add so much to our classroom.
They will help to build a strong, supportive, and encouraging classroom community! They will give us a place to learn together and a place for my students to work with their peers. They will help everyone feel as if they belong and have a special place, and it will help me welcome all of my new little ones into our classroom this year and for many years to come!
