My students live in a world where video games and computers absorb much of their free time and home and their classroom. With so much technology, our students need tactile activities that will develop their fine motor skills. We want to learn to weave artworks for fun and fine motor skills!
As the art teacher, I see all the students in my building.
They all love to make art and to use any art supplies that I can give them. They are eager and enthusiastic learners. There is an increasing number of students in our school and township that have recently moved to the United States from other impoverished countries. These students are also excited to work on art projects that they cannot make at home and always come to my room with a smile on their face.
My Project
Because I teach all of the students in the school, I am requesting two large classroom-size looms, multiple classroom packs of individual size and enough yarn to be able to complete projects at every grade level. Through this project, students will learn how their clothes, and other fabrics, are made. They will participate in fun activities to practice weaving and create weaving projects for their
friends and family.
This project is so important to my classroom because my students love to use yarn and other tactile art supplies in any project that they can.
They love the feel of the yarn and they love to create projects with their hands. This project will also teach them how to make their own weaving artworks at home so they can continue to make artworks long after they leave my classroom. It will also give them an appreciation for how their own clothes and other fabrics are made.
