My Students

My students attend a special needs school. We are the Jackson County Exceptional School. All of our students are unable to functional in a regular school setting.

My students are awesome.

They are all extra special in their own ways. I have three visually impaired (blind) students. The Braille set I am ordering for them will be used for a long time. The majority of our students start kindergarten here and stay until they're twenty-one years old. Most of them have Autism. They learn through music and other hand over hand activities.

My Project

The Braille kit will be used for my three students and for the other blind students in the school. My students are unable to write with pencils and without support from teacher and assistants, therefore, I am asking for the large Crayola large classroom pack. Next, they have Occupational Therapy on Wednesdays and are frequently tasked to cut things with scissors. The easy grip scissors will eliminate frustration from trying to grip the regular scissors. Learning with disabilities can be tough so lets try to make it fun! All of my students are nonverbal so the sound puzzles will be awesome for them. I am asking for tactile sandpaper letters and numbers for my three blind students. Its our job as educators to find all possible ways to teach our students. Finally, I am ordering an Optic light and relaxing music to calm my students with Autism. This is my first year at this school but I am a veteran teacher of 25 years. I love this school so much it has changed my life.

My project will make a difference because all of the items will give my students an opportunity to learn more.

It will also give my blind students more opportunities to be involved in the lessons. The behavior management will increase with use of the soft music and optic light. My goal is to change my room into a sensory room for students with Autism. I want this to be their home away from home. I want them to jump up with enthusiasm when it's time to come to school.
