My Students

"Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him." –Maya Angelou. My students are constantly asking for series books and are disappointed when they are all checked out. I'd like to provide more copies for them.

I am a teacher/librarian at an elementary school that services many Navy and Army families in Hawaii.

The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our Preschool-6th grade campus. About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years.

My Project

My students need 20 series books such as Dork Diaries, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Ever After High. My students enjoy reading popular series books. Once they finish one, they always ask for the next in the series. I'd like to provide additional copies of the books so more students will have the opportunity to read them. Reading these books will instill a love of reading in the students. In addition, when the students finish a book series and ask for similar novels, I can direct them to other books with complex plots and colorful characters.

Funding this project will provide more books for my students.

My enthusiastic readers will no longer have to wait to read series books. Once they are interested and motivated to read, students can branch out to try other authors and more challenging titles.
