Do you remember the first time you heard your favorite children's story? Many of my students have not yet heard their favorite book, but they have also not yet heard many books!
I have eighteen Kindergarten students who are excited, eager and ready to learn.
We make up one of eleven Kindergarten classes. While our classrooms are fortunate enough to have many materials, I have not yet been able to build a listening library appropriate for consistent modeling for my students. Our supply budget does not include enough funds to purchase these materials for our classroom.
My Project
Having a ready supply of listening books and CDs will provide my students with a correct model of pacing, intonation and expression. These CDs will model fluency so as they learn to read independently, they will learn correctly. By having a book to follow along with as they hear the words, they will begin to recognize high frequency words. These books will also assist them with reading accuracy and comprehension.
I am lucky that my students are energetic and want to learn!
Unfortunately, I personally cannot provide them with these materials on my own. Please help me provide my students with the resources necessary to foster my students' love of reading.
