My students need 5 Google Chromebooks to integrate technology into our classroom on a daily basis.

My Students
When my son, who is now almost 17, was in kindergarten our school district purchased laptops for use in the classroom. Those laptops, now 11 years old, are still in our classrooms as our portal to the world-wide web and all of the wonderful opportunities for student engagement and learning.
My students are a fantastic and enthusiastic group of students.
I love teaching them and opening their eyes to the wonderful world of learning. These students are the most caring and respectful group of students I have ever had. Although only 8 or 9 years old, they are eager to help whenever possible. Just recently they helped put together 61 care packages to be sent to troops in the mountains of Afghanistan. I just cannot say enough great things about these students. They come in each day with smiles on their faces and jump right into their learning with virtually no prompting from me. They would even be more than willing to share the equipment with other classes!
My students are in a school of 450 students k-4 in a coastal Maine community.
My Project
They are especially excited about projects when I include opportunities for integrating technology. We have been learning how to blog even though most days it takes as long as 15 minutes just to log into our accounts! They try very hard to create digital storybooks, even though because of the age of our computers and the operating systems, work often is lost and they must start over. Generally, they take this in stride and, eager to show off what they can do, start again with little more than, "Oh no! It happened again!"
I would love to surprise them all with several Chromebooks and see the magic that can happen! Chromebooks are a portal to the many resources my students could use. Using Google Forms for pre-reading, during reading and post-reading activities will turn them on to reading. Being able to map their reading will help with comprehension. Regular posts to our blog and publishing their writing to an authentic audience will inspire them to write more. The options are endless.
As a teacher who loves technology as much as my students do, I am anxious to help them connect with the world outside our small community.
Imagine the motivation they would have to improve their writing when their thoughts and ideas can be shared with other students around the world! They can even show grandparents living far away states their great writing! With the webcam they can even practice their fluency by reading to children, grandparents and people all over the world!
